Looking for reassurance after positive covid test

After feeling really unwell my GP surgery asked me to test and it has come back positive this morning.

I'm 32 and obese BMI roughly 37. I know it's terrible and my weight has fluctuated between 9 stone and currently over 16 stone after having my two children.

I am so so terrified, this is the first time I have ever caught it despite being around it many times.

I'm currently struggling with full body aches and pains, awful back and neck ache, headache, diarrhea and full body waves of nausea/hot/cold chills.

My children start school tomorrow including starting reception and I'm so sad and worried that my disgusting eating habits are affecting my ability to be well for them.

I'm so scared that I can't tell the difference between anxiety/ panic attacks and real chest pains/struggling to breathe.

Can anybody similar please reassure me that it's not as bad as I'm imaging please my mental health is really suffering. Thanks x

You would still have caught covid even you were 9 stone, don't beat yourself up about it. Unfortunate timing with starting school but it's one of those things. I hope you feel better very soon.

FatCovidWorries · 04/09/2023 20:31

Thanks for your reply and for being kind I know I would have still caught it but I think I would have coped with the symptoms better.

Unfortunately it seems my DD has picked up on my anxiety and she's got a little worried face which then has me spiraling in worries too.

Hoping it doesn't last long.

Try not to worry. I’ve just tested negative this evening on day 8 of Covid. Im also overweight (about 14st) and I’ve survived it twice now.
I won’t lie, I was pretty unwell for a couple of days with a very woozy head, sweats, strange adrenaline rushes and palpitations, aches and pains, nausea, and generally feeling exhausted yet I couldn’t sleep. Once it passes though it does clear away fairly quickly and apart from feeling tired now I’m ok.
Try and rest as much as possible, eat what you fancy (I felt worse if I didn’t eat) and just go with it. It will pass and you’ll be fine, the vaccines have done a great job in offering a fair amount of protection. Good luck OP, keep dropping in here if you need reassurance

You wouldn’t necessarily have coped with the symptoms any better. I’ve got some skinny mates who were floored by covid and larger pals who sailed through it …. It’s such a random virus!

VeloVixen · 04/09/2023 20:48

Someone I know with a bmi far more than yours has had it twice now and sailed through with hardly feeling unwell. My dh is fit as a flea and runs ultra marathons and was in bed for days feeling awful. Don’t blame yourself and don’t panic.

I'm bigger than you and got through it just fine. The vast majority do now. You'll feel like crap for a few days and then it will begin to pass. Rubbish timing with the school return but you are going to be ok. xx

thorneyislanddoris · 04/09/2023 20:52

Try not to worry, I'm sure you'll be absolutely fine. You need to look after yourself rest and drink plenty of fluids. If you're concerned about your chest you can get a pulse oximeter fairly cheaply off of Amazon and you can monitor your blood oxygen levels. You should be between 95 and 100%, but if it goes below 92%, then you should really ring 111. Good luck.

I'm overweight and when I had covid I was poorly but my super slim partner was absolutely bed bound and in agony,he had to crawl to use the bathroom.
Keep yourself hydrated and it will pass x

Aw thank you all so much I've been trying and failing to sleep for ages now but these replies are helping to calm my mind Flowers

16 stone here, also have it for the first time. Felt unwell Wednesday afternoon, tested positive Friday morning. Still testing positive today but starting to feel better than I did.

I also have asthma and, historically, every time I have a cold it ends up as a chest infection with steroids and antibiotics. None of that this time!

Hope you feel better soon.

I have asthma and tested positive for the first time yesterday, so this is reassuring as my lungs are my weak spot and the thing i've always worried about if i did catch it. Currently just feel like I've the mother of all colds.

OP, my ex has had Covid twice, he's overweight but has had no real issues either time thankfully. Just very tired and heavy cold-like symptoms.

We moved house 4 days ago and most of our stuff is still in boxes 😂 I've a mad amount to do to get straight and 3 children back to school this week, so this is really bad timing but that's life I guess.

Sending best wishes and hope you feel better soon

I’m on day 5 of my first ever bout of Covid and I am clinically vulnerable due to an underlying condition. The symptoms have been rough but I’m coming out of the other side of those now. I didn’t need anything more than painkillers, lots of rest and to stay hydrated. I hope you feel better soon

FatCovidWorries · 05/09/2023 12:42

Thank you to everyone who has responded so kindly. Last night was probably the worst night of no sleep I've ever had and was rather scary but the full body pains and chills have lessened today so I'm feeling much more positive.
Just praying I don't go too downhill again, i will reread this thread if I'm panicking thanks again Flowers

I say this with the intention of being kind - being overweight with that BMI is way more risky for developing cardiovascular disease diabetes etc than covid. So your worry about covid is unsubstantiated compared with the health risks of obesity

I would suggest getting some help for this health anxiety and seeking as much support as you can to help you lose the weight.

FatCovidWorries · 07/09/2023 11:52

Thanks again to everyone who posted. Thankfully I'm feeling better but my 4 year old is now very unwell and I feel awful that I've passed it on. Sad

struggling with covid too right now, it is horrid, isn't it - I assume you will not be sending your kids in to school this week?
