My partners just tested positive for covid. Symptoms are headache and sore throat
3 year old I haven’t tested, but she had a really foul smelling loose poo last night and she’s sneezed a few times this morning so I’m assuming she may have it too
Ive tested negative but feel out of sorts, hot and flushed one minute then cold the next. Palpitations and my nose feels abit funny like I’m catching something

Can I ask what covid is presenting as now? How bad it gets etc. I had it last October and the headache was absolutely fucking awful and I’m petrified alone of that again!

It presents differently in different people and there is no real way of discerning from symptoms whether it’s covid or not. There are no official symptoms and at the start of the pandemic those lists of symptoms were a bit of a blunt tool not a definitive guide.

Some people will have covid and not test positive. Some people don’t test positive until day 6/9 etc.

Assume you have it and avoid public places and vulnerable people (who often just look like normal people).

Catinawhirl · 02/09/2023 11:44

I just tested positive. Symptoms fit those of new variant.... slight sore throat and mucus, sniffy runny nose, mild headache, feel weak. Hurt all over (like flu) but only for a few hours luckily.

pixiesaresmall · 02/09/2023 11:51

I tested positive Thursday. Started with sore throat night before and then streaming nose. I'm full of cold symptoms now but horrible earache in both ears kept me up in the night. Feel sick as well and just washing dishes earlier made me feel terrible.
Only had it once before and the worst part was a sinus infection so hoping that doesn't happen again as the headache with that was awful.

Stressedafff · 02/09/2023 21:13

I’m absolutely shitting myself with anxiety.
It’s so unpredictable, and I suffer enough with health anxiety and OCD so I’m predicting a spiral after this. Im worried about myself and DD. No symptoms or positive tests from us yet but it’s bound to come. I hate this stupid virus

Oh OP. Deep breaths.
No two illnesses are ever the same. It might not be as bad as last time, it could be totally different.
I know so many people who were absolutely fine with it.
I had covid a couple months back, felt like shit but within a day or two I was fine.
Try and stay positive and distract your mind. This time next week the worst will be over ❤️

pixiesaresmall · 02/09/2023 21:22

Try not to stress because that will impact your immune system! It is different for everyone and each variant has different symptoms.
Big hugs Op

debka · 02/09/2023 21:32

Don't assume you'll get sick. My partner has had it badly twice, I've been completely unaffected.

stayingright · 03/09/2023 10:58

Can I ask where everyone is getting these tests from and why are you testing?

I work in front line NHS services and the official line is not to test. We haven't been supplied with tests ( although Fi have old ones from last year).

The guidelines are now saying only to test if deteriorating/hospitalisation or if you are transferring from hospital to nursing home.

And to use common sense. If you have mild symptoms wear a mask. If you have harder symptoms stay away and rest until you feel better.

OP I appreciate you have anxiety, but are you planning on stressing out every single time for the rest of your life if anyone in your family or friends circle gets symptoms.

You do need to move on

OldTinHat · 03/09/2023 12:56

I tested positive on Friday. Reason I tested was because I'm due to stay with a family member later this week who has cancer and a suppressed immune system due to chemo. I'm not going to put them at risk. I have in date tests left in my cupboard from when they sent them out for free. I'm also CEV myself and live alone.

Started off with a headache and sore throat Wednesday, add a cough and temperature Thursday, all over aches and shivering Friday. Still have these but was up all night with earache which hasn't budged yet. Nausea, dizziness, runny nose and sneezing.

Whatever the reason for the NHS saying don't test, it's not because covid is mild and it doesn't matter who you pass it on to. It can be lethal and it does matter. I know no one wants it to matter, but it does. It's a much much more dangerous disease to have when having surgery for something else than a cold is, for instance. So I don't know why the NHS wants to ignore it, unless it's just easier v logistically and sod the collateral damage.

I tested positive yesterday. Started off the night before with lower back/hip pain and leg cramps. All day in work yesterday I had horrible shooting pains in my legs and just felt weak and floppy. Felt that terrible when I finished I got some tests. Last night the headache and sinus pain started 😭 Today I have a fever, whole body hurts , it even hurt to blink earlier, slight cough and rib pain. Thankfully the headache has gone. I had it in 2021 it feels worse this time 🤒

I'm sorry to hear you're unwell and do really hope you feel better soon... but I don't know why you thought posting this would help the OP who is clearly having a lot of anxiety around this.

Stressedafff · 03/09/2023 21:21

Tested positive today
Very sneezy and snuffly with a scratchy throat
No appetite at all and my legs are so bloody achy and restless.
It was day 2 I got the headache, but I don’t feel as bad this time as I did last year. I’m PRAYING I don’t get that headache tomorrow.

This is because you are collateral damage. And the NHS is already short staffed.
Not because the disease is mild and unaffecting.

It is also because people don’t care if someone who is vulnerable has to lead a restrictive life or if they die (unless it’s their own family)

Testing will return in some guise this winter.

teenysaladandsniffofarose · 04/09/2023 08:51

Partner had it last week, runny nose and a bit fatigued, I caught it on Friday and felt like flu but only lasted a day now I just feel like I've got a head cold and just a knackered! I'm 16 weeks pregnant too.

Ds 3 hasn't showed any signs of catching it yet but we've had it 3 times previously and he's never caught it/ showed symptoms.

PinkRoses1245 · 04/09/2023 08:54

Why does it matter? You’re ill, you recover. Can’t believe any one still tests.

Soupsetscared · 04/09/2023 09:00

@PinkRoses1245 not everyone recovers.
Tell that to a neighbour who died after testing positive on Wednesday.
Yes he already had health problems.

JustAnotherRandom · 04/09/2023 09:37

@PinkRoses1245 can you try to stretch yourself to think of any reason someone would test - even a teeny weeny one?!

mistermagpie · 04/09/2023 09:43

I've just done a test. I have an autoimmune disease and am supposed to get anti virals if I test positive (I didn't, just feel crappy from something else). Most people who test have a reason related to their own health or the health of someone they are in contact with. It's not really complicated.

I test because I have to go for iv antivirals if I'm positive. Last time I had covid it stopped symptoms within 24 hrs. Not everyone can brush things off like a cold, some of us having Chemo have to be careful
