How are you managing post covid fatigue?

Morning, just wanted to ask how is anyone struggling with post covid fatigue managing it.

I'm really confused, I had covid last year and it was really rough but I didn't have fatigue like this after the infection. This time all I had was 1 day of an awful fever then sniffles for a week. But wow I cannot get through this fatigue.

I can fight tiredness but this is like someone is constantly drugging me with a drowsy medication. I'm trying my hardest to push through it but it's really hard. Anyone else, can we compare notes on what helps?

So sorry. From someone with LC now, rest rest rest. Do not push through.

Backtothe90ties · 31/08/2023 11:16

Yep I second the PP I pushed through LC symptoms and was off work for 6 months. You need to rest and pace to recover.

JustAnotherRandom · 31/08/2023 11:46

What helped you recover? I'm 18 months in.

Hiheyho · 31/08/2023 14:44

Ask for a blood test and check for iron/ferritin levels, my dropped dramatically when I had covid, so upping ferritin really helped

Almahart · 31/08/2023 14:45

Rest. Do NOT push through. How long has it been?

CoQ10 · 31/08/2023 14:52

This is me. I had second bout of covid in October 2021. Still struggling with chronic fatigue, headaches and muscle ache in neck and shoulders.
I've been off work, back to work, part time, full time and everything in between.
It's been much worse in 2023 as I got two other viruses in Jan (cold and sore throat) and terrible joint inflammation subsequently.
Am back to three days a week, two days sick leave. Its been very tough. No real advice other than rest, time off, and a shed load of sleep (I've been sleeping 10 hours plus every night on holiday).

I'm also going back to my GP next week to get some.proper advice (been fobbed off for a year with 'its menopause'!!)

@JustAnotherRandom Im not fully recovered I had Covid in 2020 before vaccinations and much information on LC. I pushed through and eventually had to take time off. I then worked part time for a year. I’m now back to full time work but still struggle at times with brain fog and occasionally with fatigue. I took a raft of supplements and like a PP my ferritin and iron were low I also developed a B12 deficiency. So definitely worth seeing your GP. The most successful treatment was pacing. Do some research and make sure you don’t overdo it as it really will set you back. Good luck!

Thanks all, I had it a year ago and how annoying I had just gotten rid of my symptoms from the last time when I got it again!! So I still had some lingering neuropathy, stabbing head pains and some fatigue, sense of smell and taste change.

This second bout was @Almahart was 3 weeks ago roughly.

@Hiheyho I was thinking about that, I've booked in to see my gp about it to see if he can rule out a low level of anything.

Sorry to hear others are struggling, it's bloody crap.

Gosh sounds rough, I hope your gp can help and hope the symptoms ease for you soon. It's horrible not doing what I used to, feel for anyone else with this going on.

Definitely do not push through. Rest, rest, rest and pace (gently)

I'm feeling ok now but the fatigue took 6 months to leave, though I was "better" and back at work full-time from Easter, after weeks off sick and 2 months of phased return. It was crappy and because work stuff went wrong during that period I am now still dealing with the fall-out.

Noselikeyorkshirepud · 07/09/2023 18:58

If anyone checks back, try high dose B vitamins, pacing and cetirizine. Has worked for me. When you have fatigue break the day down into very small chunks and just focus on 5 minutes at a time, a bit of cbt type thinking helped me a little bit. Also try and walk every day, start small - end of street day 1, next street day 2 and so on. It's almost like building a battery up.

Still not 100% but feel human again.

Get well soon all.

That’s very good news @Noselikeyorkshirepud
id reiterate the advice to rest and rest.

All the people I know who ‘recovered’ from
that fatigue had to be very careful
for about a year or they simply relapsed.

Noselikeyorkshirepud · 07/09/2023 19:53

@LifeIsShitJustNow Thanks, a good reminder, I totally agree, I'm trying to remember to give in when it starts to hit.

Thanks. I've been under a long covid clinic for a while. Glad you're feeling much better.
