Post covid cough in child

My six year old had covid (we all did) 3 weeks ago. When he tested positive his symptoms were pretty mild, mostly an intermittent cough. In the past week the cough has got pretty bad, especially at night. It's hard to describe, not exactly chesty or dry but the coughing spells can be quite long.

I hadn't brought him to the doctor as no temp, phlegm not green/yellow and generally he's up and about living life fine. But any tips for how long to expect this to last or any home remedies to help with the cough?

Following as my toddler had a cough that comes and goes, but has never gone away completely for weeks now. When we last mentioned it to the gp, she said coughs can linger and it's just her airways being irritated, but it's getting ridiculous now!

Not sure about Covid coughs but I always get post-nasal drip after a cold which can last for ages.
I use Beconase nose drops religiously for a few days which usually sorts it out.

Should have said - which causes throat irritation and a cough.

When my son had covid, he was extremely unwell but no cough. Once he started testing negative then he developed a cough which took a good couple of months to go. Checked with gp at the time and they said they’d seen it a lot.

Thanks both. I will try kids version of that nose spray, he does have a bit of a runny nose that developed out of no where as well, so could be nasal drip making it worse.

Interesting that your situation was similar @TakeMe2Insanity, feel bad for them though with a cough lasting months :-(
