Both NHS so have loads of tests in case need them ..I have had awful cold and terrible chest, crushing fatigue all week, very much like last time I had covid but testing negative , DH symptoms began 2 days ago and he's tested positive straight away ...but do we both have it ?

Can one person be negative and one positive ? Or have I just something else that's awful...

I imagine you have it too tbh.
A friend and her family all tested negative except one DD but, when they went for PCR testing when it was a thing, they were all positive. They only tested positive on LFT a few days later.

I know when I first had it it took days to test positive on LFT. I’m on my third time at the moment and feeling awful so you have my sympathies if you’ve got it too. My dh is feeling under the weather but is negative, waiting to see if that changes. He’s never tested positive tho despite us having covid in the house 6 times now tho!

I've spent al day thinking I've got a cold. Tested and it's covid again!

If it's covid for him, then chances are it's covid for you too (false positives are pretty rare, false negatives quite common)

Data on numbers is poor quality these days, but a number of countries are seeing a rise, so it's likely that's happening here too.

What I don't know, on the theme of false negatives, is how good LFTs are against current variant/s. Has anyone seen anything on that?

With confirmed covid btw, the guidelines currently are that you should stay at home for three days. But if it is essential to go out, then wear a mask and practice social distancing

Wow 6 times ..it's fascinating how some people have natural immunity , or it just doesn't show up on tests .

Thanks I think I had forgotten about the false negatives..not ears anything about if LFTs don't work with different variants ..a quick google says that they are accurate at medium and higher viral concentrations..so I guess it does depend on when you test and how big your viral load is maybe ...

I'm in the same boat. Husband with Covid and I feel awful. Have tested negative for the past three days. Is it true that you really mustn't read a test after 30 mins?

IncognitoMam · 07/08/2023 06:27

Do you have to stay off work now if you have it?

UnmentionedElephantDildo · 07/08/2023 07:03

You should

From NHS website:

"if you or your child have tested positive for COVID-19:

  • try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for a further 3 days after your positive test if you are under 18 years
  • try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for a further 5 days after your positive test if you are 18 or over
  • avoid meeting people who are more likely to get seriously ill from viruses, such as people with a weakened immune system, for a further 10 days after your positive test"

You don't have to test, and these are guidelines (no penalty if you breach them)

If you do have to go out, avoid crowded indoors places, wear a mask and practice social distancing.

Also remember that you cannot tell who is more likely to get seriously ill just be looking

Myself and DS had but DP didn't get it. This was back in July 2022. Not tested since though if we've had a cough/cold.
