Hope you are feeling better OP.
Dd1 came back from a friends last week saying friend had a cold, dd1 came down with it a couple days later, thought nothing of it. Now Dd2 has it and I had to test as she goes out with a care worker who also works with vulnerable people, she tested positive so dd1 must have had it last week. We have stayed in for a few days, dd2 still very snotty (has had symptoms since Sunday evening). We are hoping to be able to leave the house by Friday as dd2 is climbing the walls.

I think there is a lot of it about at the moment. It seems very mild for most people.

We will just stay in until dd2 is better. Dd1 still have a sore throat 10 days on but I’m sure she’s not contagious anymore.

We’ve had it in our house since last week I’ve been off work since 26th July am allowed back tomorrow, I work in a nursing home, however, my lateral flows are still showing a very feint positive. It’s absolutely knocked us out can’t believe how tired we are feeling.

I still test. And everyone who goes near Biden has to test... strange for “just a cold” no???

10% chance of long covid on each infection.

I think a lot of people still test, more should. People have lost interest but reducing your infections and those you pass on is still very much worth it.

Amazon have flowflex for about 80p each.

We still test here. I was I’ll for months after Covid and still don’t feel totally back to normal, brain fog etc. I don’t want to inflict that on anyone else, or anyone vulnerable. It was horrible .

Toddlerteaplease · 02/08/2023 22:19

My friend and loads of the group I was on a pilgrimage to Lourdes with last week gave tested positive. Surprised how many people are still testing. My friend feels rotten.

wondersun · 07/08/2023 20:48

A lot more people testing and paying attention than the government would like to have you believe - they’d rather we just cracked on, earned some dosh, spent some dosh. Long term health of the population seems to be low down on their list.

We need to keep looking out for each other. Covid infections are bad news for everyone.

Aren't you supposed to hope for better health after a trip to Lourdes?

grayhairdontcare · 07/08/2023 20:55

@wondersun my employer ( education) recommends you don't test.
If you are to Ill to work stay off .
If you can work then come in.

Toddlerteaplease · 07/08/2023 20:56

@DoughnutDreams well yes. 🤣

JustAnotherRandom · 08/08/2023 11:18

@grayhairdontcare some employers are putting people out n a horrible position, I'm sorry. They effectively shit on their staff and clients because they can.

Blinky21 · 09/08/2023 21:12

Pretty much everyone I know tests if unwell and at my work you are expected to WFH with any cold symptoms as a courtesy. It's important to remember the mortality rate is relatively high compared to other virus so it's irresponsible to pass it around knowingly. I lost a friend to it at the start of the year, she was in her early 40s

Agree with this.

It’s rampant at the moment (Northants) DD18 tested pos was very poorly for 3 weeks, I tested pos after 3 days, having felt a bit ropey and nada…

every time it spreads it gets a new chance at mutation, added to not all of us are the same. We still test because I’m immunocompromised.

Fallenangelofthenorth · 12/08/2023 01:46

Everyone's been vaccinated against covid, yet this is the only communicable disease we're still talking about that even still has it's own topic? Why? Shouldn't it now be the case that given what we've all learned from protecting vulnerable people that regardless of what particular illness we're infected with, we just stay home/practice better hygiene?

Because it seems to me that people are getting sick and testing for covid. Clear test - crack on, it's not covid, who cares what it is, spread your germs without a care. Positive test - better post on mumsnet, isolate, protect everyone who's already protected supposedly by the vaccine anyway. Shouldn't a negative test prompt a MORE robust response? Since whatever it is you've got, the vulnerable probably aren't even vaccinated against it?

Recovering from blood cancer so in a very high risk group. Tested positive on Thursday and on paxlovid as per my haematology team (it has the most vile after taste). I don’t want to have covid and I have felt awful for the last few days. Feeling a bit brighter now on meds but it frightens me how quickly I decline with covid.

So yeah, some of us are still testing when we feel poorly.

Had a lovely conversation with the prescribing Dr about whether I’d want ITU/ CPR etc if it comes to it. I’m a 40yo mother of 4 (ages 12 to 8)

I was perfectly healthy this time last year and then my life was turned upside down.

The lack of empathy from some well people on here is quite crushing.

Our family has just come down with it (3 out of 5 so far)

My mum, living in a different part of the country has it too. It has made her very ill indeed, but then she's elderly and won't have her jab.

Late to this (pity) party but as you posted twice about the fact your elderly mother didn't have the vaccination - do you want to tell us why? Otherwise, you'd be best keeping your opinions to yourself. As in, I don't imagine we'd be bothered if she caught it and was subsequently ill, unless of course our health care system had to look after her at great expense as a direct consequence of her private beliefs?

Please don't think my comments were directed against you. Quite the reverse in fact. What annoys me is that after all we've learned about how people such as yourself, for a variety of reasons, are vulnerable not just to covid, but lots of infections. You'd think, or hope, that people would have learned from the last 3 years. And in some ways they have, because you get loads of posts on here saying "tested positive for covid, better protect the vulnerable", but so many people have not applied that same logic to the fact ALL communicable diseases should be treated the same. Just because you don't know what you're infected with, doesn't really mean you should just crack on as normal.

Yet all these posts are "ooh tested positive for covid" better protect the vulnerable. With the implication being if it wasn't covid then, that's fine, carry on. It's a shame really that instead of testing, we can't just think "I'm sick, I'll try not to pass it on"

PankWuffin · 12/08/2023 09:24

We have had covid this past week and I have felt quite bad for almost a week. Last time I had it I barely noticed!

I tested as I lost sense of smell and taste and we were due to see elderly relatives.

I feel way worse this time, but dh seems completely fine and I'm usually a lot less affected by illness than he is. I've felt like I've been run over by a bus and just couldn't get up off the sofa yesterday. Think I'm on the mend a bit now though. I caught it off someone else who got over it really quickly, so maybe I'm just a bit more affected by it for some reason.

The taste is grim! I rebounded to tested negative and felt better quickly then got snotty and tired again and retested positive
Paxlovid definitely helped though (I have autoimmune neutropenia and my count is around 0.3)

Lovemusic33 · 22/08/2023 20:59

After avoiding covid a couple weeks ago when both DD’s had it, I tested positive today after being at a festival at the weekend. This is the 4th time I have had covid and by far the worst, I felt so unwell this morning, raging temp, cough, body aches and head ache, have now lost my sense of smell and taste. Spent half of today in bed and the rest in the sofa.
