Feeling sorry for myself - feel so unwell

ChiPawPrint · 21/07/2023 19:26

Covid finally got me after 3 and a half years and I feel absolutely shocking. I don't know why but for some reason I thought cases would be mild now but flipping heck, this has knocked me for 6.

I've got all the usual symptoms like temp etc and tested positive today. Heart rate is 122 which is worrying me but it could be to do with being unwell.

Can't eat anything either and keep feeling sick. I do get health anxiety so I'm worrying a little.

Heart rate being higher when unwell is totally normal - it's part of your body fighting it 👍🏻

Congrats on avoiding it for 3.5 years though!

neilyoungismyhero · 21/07/2023 19:34

I finally caught it last November- couldn't believe it. I shielded initially. I felt nauseated and completely drained and slept for 24 hours. I was very sick for about 6 hours out of the 24 but then perked up. Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks, that is reassuring. I don't half worry sometimes. I've had all my Covid jabs so hopefully be all ok.

The pain though 😩

Oh no! How many times have you had it?

I don't think I've felt this unwell since I had bad flu when I was a kid.

shakeitoffshakeacocktail · 21/07/2023 22:34

Each time I've had it it's been milder each time but I was unwell with the first one and really wasn't ready to go back after 11 day's quarantine but did as I felt pressured to. It was an awful frontal headache and lethargy for me almost like vertigo

winteriscoming2022 · 22/07/2023 15:38

Can I join in please? I've just tested positive for the bloody fourth time. I feel truly awful. I've had all the jabs and this is the third episode after them
First time I was very unwell for around two weeks
Second and third unwell for a couple of days only and not too bad.
This time feels as bad as the first time but with the added complication of chest pain which I've never had before ( the rest is the usual temp, headache, aching)
This is day two. What is the policy now around going out/ back to work? I know most people aren't testing anymore I only did as the chest pain started worrying me.

ChiPawPrint · 23/07/2023 02:56

@winteriscoming2022 You've had it 4 times? 😳

I've started with diarrhoea today and I have sharp pains all over my ribs. That could be to do with me coughing so much though.

I just feel so weak, can't stand up for more than a couple of minutes. Pain all over. Not much of an appetite.

I'm not sure about going out etc. I'm not going anywhere as I'm too unwell to even get out of bed but I don't know what the actual rules are.

I still feel utterly dreadful and I’m at least 10 days in. So drained, I get up for a bit, sit on the couch or make some food and then have to go and sleep. After a few days I thought I was getting better but around 7/8 days in had a complete relapse. It’s just so depressing and I’m not a good patient (feel like I’m wasting my days).

PolliFlinders · 23/07/2023 14:24

I had it for the first time recently and have never felt so ill.

meringue33 · 23/07/2023 14:35

Just got it for the third time, feels milder this time but still been asleep for most of the last 24 hours. Guidance now is to try and avoid people for five days if possible. OP don’t be afraid to seek medical advice if you need it, sounds like you have a particularly nasty dose.

Todayiscool · 23/07/2023 14:40

It's such a strange virus, I've had it three times.

April 2020 - completely asymptomatic - I only knew due to routine test for work. Then I got chilblains like you can't imagine a week later (covid toe).

April 2022 - felt like death, so ill and weak and feeble. And lost my sense of taste, but randomly only for certain tastes (honey and orange being two of them)

April 2023 - literally the 'mild cold' deniers would tall you about.

I'm not saying it WAS created intentionally, but if I were creating a virus, this is what I'd make it like. Weird and pernicious.

Todayiscool · 23/07/2023 14:41

It's worth saying that after the second round, I got post viral asthma, which I still have to this day. So keep an eye out for ongoing coughing / wheezing.

IsadoraMoon · 23/07/2023 16:56

Also got it two days ago for the third bloody time! Joy! I was so surprised and disappointed - right at the beginning of the school holidays! Everyone I have told has been like 'I didn't realise it was still a thing! Felt like it was coming on for a while, after my husband tested positive, scratchy throat etc but kept testing negative and then got a high temp and the kind of exhaustion that makes you feel like you've been hit by a ten ton truck. Generally better today and been for short walk (outdoors) but feeling pretty tired now again. I just want to sit on the sofa and watch crappy TV but I am trying to keep my distance from the kids though they'll no doubt get it. Does anyone even know what variant we are on now and how much kids are affected?

IsadoraMoon · 23/07/2023 16:57

It totally sucks though and you all have my sympathies

Bayleaf25 · 23/07/2023 19:12

On the plus side my kids definitely caught it too but barely had a sniffle and bounced back really quickly.

Good to know thanks! Hopefully it'll be the same here. Hope you're feeling a bit better today. I think I am but still very light headed!

NYE2023 · 25/07/2023 21:38

I felt terrible with omicron - my throat felt like it was full of glass shards. Excruciating . It also triggered a relapse of Epstein Barr Virus for me ( Glandular fever ) so felt terrible from that with bone crushing exhaustion . Covid isn’t a bloody cold even though they want us to believe that . I hope you feel better soon OP. my main advice is don’t rush back into living life at a race of knots but take it steadily - 10% will develop long Covid apparently. I volunteered for the panorama trial - if you qualify you might get antivirals ( I didn’t but my symptoms were recorded for 6 months post illness ). You can still sign up to the trial if you qualify .

ChiPawPrint · 26/07/2023 17:08

@NYE2023 I had that with this one. Throat felt like I was swallowing glass. Thankfully that has gone now though.

I tested again yesterday and it was still a really strong positive. Husband has also tested positive today.

I'm still so exhausted and could just fall to sleep sat up sometimes. Also had a really weird dizzy spell today. Is this all normal?

OP posts:
NYE2023 · 26/07/2023 17:33

I got dizzy spells for about 6-8 weeks after my confirmed Covid infection . I also probably had Covid in 2020 when they weren’t testing and also very dizzy with that . If you look on the NHS website they say that isn’t uncommon post a viral infection . I used to be wobbly getting out of bed , standing up from sofa , sometimes just standing- and as for getting on my bike I think I would have fallen off . At first I found it quite scary because so didn’t understand what was happening to me. But For me it was the crushing fatigue which sometimes hit me from nowhere which was the thing that caused problems . I am normally quite reliable and I became very flakey about whether I could turn up to something or not . Sometimes I just physically didn’t have the strength . I’m afraid my fatigue went on for months though it did improve. I think I tried to do too much when I was better from the initial infection hence why I say just pace yourself and get back to normal more slowly . For me the fatigue isn’t just feeling a bit tired - it is way beyond that - one of my oldest friends was out for a walk and fatigue hit - she just had to lie down in the muddy path . So luckily I had a friend who really understood. So what you are experiencing sounds normal for Covid but I would definitely 1. Speak to your GP if you are concerned about anything since Covid can cause lots of other mischief - I know someone who it caused heart issues 2. Sign up to panoramic trial if you qualify - even if you don’t get antivirals it was really reassuring chatting through my initial symptoms, and then the long Covid symptoms with them .

Whilst I am better now it makes me so cross that the Govt is labelling those with fatigue as being lazy for not being back at work . I simply wasn’t fit for work at all in the early stages after I started testing negative . Sorry I had to get that rant in!

wishing you well as soon as possible and your DH too.

anewbook · 08/08/2023 12:28

. Just wanted to thank all the posters here for such excellent advice and support and encouragement. I have had 3 days off and my work are putting pressure on me to return despite fact I am still feeling absolutely exhausted and still unwell. It is my second time to have covid and it took me a long time to get well last time. Reading these points have helped me decide to prioritize my own health and well-being. Many thanks.

ps no idea why this is all underlined 😂

Yet another person who has had all of their jabs and still got a bad case of Covid?

Everyone I know who is un-jabbed has shaken it off like a mild cold.

But you know, just imagine how bad it would have been without your jabs. Haha!

Anyone on here joined up the dots yet?

So 2020 was pre-jab and you were mostly fine? 2022 was after you jab and you felt like death? Hmmmm, just imagine how bad it would have been had you not had your jabs. Haha.

ChiPawPrint · 08/08/2023 14:32

@Amelie34 To be honest, my booster jab wrecked my health. In constant pain all over my body, veins have become more prominent, spider veins all over my legs as well as sudden varicose veins. Increased anxiety.

I can't conclusively say it's 100% linked but I started with all the pain etc one week after my last jab.

I feel for you. To be honest we know several people in the same boat. Not that their GP's seem interested to investigate properly mind.
