Should I take the latest booster?

I took all jabs offered so far, even whilst pregnant and all has been largely fine.

However, I have to admit I've read many reports of post Vax nastiness and I chickened out of the last booster.

Should I just take it? Am I being daft?

I had my spring booster , I have a serious lung condition so it was a no brainer . I'm also not prone to allergies so . You will just have to weigh it up for your own circumstances .

ClemFandango1 · 08/06/2023 19:24

Yeah. There's so much misinformation it's hard to know what to believe.

We've not, but only because it's too late now as we want a booster around October to be as protected as possible for the Winter wave. You have to wait six months, so the earliest we could have had it was April, but around here, the current booster program hadn't started back then. If we had it now, mid June, we couldn't have the next until mid December, which is too late for comfort for us. Far better to have full protection ready for the winter wave when we're more likely to be indoors, mixing with people, etc.

I haemorrhaged for two days after the Pfizer booster - never again.

LBFseBrom · 08/06/2023 19:38

I don't blame you for being reticent. I'm not having any more, have had covid, my son has had it three times, I'll take my chances.

DeeplyMovingExperience · 08/06/2023 19:50

After having 3 jabs, and reacting badly to one, I still got covid twice. So as a vaccine it doesn't work. I am now deeply sceptical about it and very reluctant to get a booster.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 08/06/2023 20:00

I’ve had 2 severe reactions (8months plus) to my last 2 boosters.

So l can’t have any.

The theory is that you don't get covid so badly if you are vaccinated. My son is on his third and says it isn't too bad, the first time was awful.

However, I don't blame you. I'm in my seventies, had covid before vaccination, then was vaccinated and am not having any boosters, thank you.

HidingInAForest · 09/06/2023 00:02

I've had mine. Felt rough and heavy arm the next day but apart from that okay

I've had a couple of horrible bouts of covid and it just made me think how much worse it would have been without jabs.

I'll take 1 sick day over 3 weeks.

Did you end up in hospital or die when you got covid? If not, the vaccine worked just fine.

The vaccine won't stop you catching covid, that's been evident for quite a while. It reduces the chances of developing serious complications from it though.

bonfirebash · 09/06/2023 01:29

I've not had mine yet and am tempted to hold off until sept ish to try and get decent protection for winter
Had 6 vaccines, and covid once, really don't want it again

bonfirebash · 09/06/2023 01:32

Just went off to read and it looks as though there will be a further booster for winter so I've booked my spring one. I've had 2 AZ, a moderna and 3 Pfizer so if that doesn't work... Grin

What on earth do you mean, it doesn’t work?

@DeeplyMovingExperience

& yet, here you are posting on MN.
🙄🙄

you didn't die, haven't got long term complications. Which part of it did work do you not get??

bonfirebash · 09/06/2023 01:59

I was so unwell with covid but despite being immunocompromised, didn't end up in hospital. Did have 17 days off work, need a sats monitor, anti virals and took months to get back to fitness again so I don't know how I would have been without the vaccines. Tested positive for 16 days as well with glaring positives

Dead I imagine as I can't fight secondary infections

Nousernamesleftatall · 09/06/2023 01:59

All those saying it works because you are not dead. You know the first variant had a death rate of 0.03%?

Omnicron is even lower.

The vaccine was supposed to prevent infection. Read the trial papers. They all changed their tune when it didn’t work.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 09/06/2023 02:01

The vaccine is to prevent the chance of serious disease (requiring hospitalization).

vaccine info here:

https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-services/covid-19-services/covid-19-vaccination-services/book-covid-19-vaccination/

There is no way to predict how severe covid will be if you catch it other than the expectation that those with compromised immunity or chronic health conditions have a greater chance of developing more severe cases. Even healthy/young/active people can become very ill and require medical care with covid.

Do you have a source for that (not a dodgy one)?

For me it's not the covid - and I imagine possibly for other people too
I can't fight stuff like pneumonia, chest infections etc which would be secondary to/caused by covid and I'm high risk for sepsis
So if I got covid, which caused a chest infection then sepsis I'm in deep shit. But would that count as death from covid or sepsis?

alpenguin · 09/06/2023 02:42

I’ve lost count of the number of vaccines I’ve had as im immunosuppressed. I have had covid twice last year (also 2020 pre testing & vax which left me I’ll for 1 year) and received treatment twice- first time the infusion which was like a miracle cure and the second time antivirals which were basically crap and the disease left me repeatedly seriously unwell with infections every few weeks for 6 months. I had another booster at new year (the double one) and when all my colleagues got covid in jan/feb, i didn’t which was a huge surprise to me.

im due another now and I’ll be getting it as soon as I’m off steroids. The alternative is too great. Colleagues are all getting covid again now. I can’t afford to be ill again like that.

@bonfirebash covid, severe disease.
God, I feel for you.

@bonfirebash counted as sepsis for FIL.
