Respirators/FFP3 - do you see people wearing them? Do you wear one? Do people get grief for wearing them?

I don’t live in the U.K., but will be visiting U.K family this summer. My family prefer to wear ffp3/N95 when flying/using public transport/visiting crowded indoor spaces. Where we live this isn’t unusual and nobody gives us any bother for it. However, I’ve read threads on social media from people in the U.K. who have been hassled for wearing respirators/face masks. One described being aggressively coughed at, another heckled.

I’m trying to get a sense of whether this is unusual or common. It will affect our holiday plans a bit if we know that we are likely to experience this. We were hoping to go to some museums and shows and indoor malls etc.

This post isn’t asking for a discussion about the efficacy of using respirators or discussing why we choose to do so, we are comfortable with our choices. Just trying to gauge what it will be like being a masked family going out and about. Hopefully it will not be an issue.

thanks

I see people wearing different types of masks, maybe two or three people everytime I'm in the supermarket. Nobody bats an eyelid, I live in a large city. I wore one before a long haul holiday in December and on the plane as didn't want to get sick and spoil my holiday. No-one cared. But it's no one else's business

I'm just outside London and almost never see people wearing masks. However I have also never seen any negativity towards anyone wearing them

I've seen a few people wearing them or other types of masks. I just assume they are immunocompromised and I've never seen anyone react in any way to the wearers.

Echoing others, these days I assume the mask wearers I see are very vulnerable or have covid themselves. I've never seen anyone getting hassle for wearing them.

Personally I don't think it is a great idea if one of the above reasons doesn't apply, as our immune systems need to be exposed to the outside world but each to their own.

Yes, I wear one frequently - invariably on public transport and in shops and other indoors spaces.

I've never had anyone make any comment whatsoever.

I have a critically vulnerable person in my household, so obviously don't want to take it home to them. And the more I read about long covid, the less I want repeated bouts of covid for myself!

I still see the odd person wearing a face mask on public transport and no one takes any notice really.

You'll stand out @AboveBeyond because hardly anyone in the UK wears these. But hassled? Nope, I've never witnessed that.
