I have been able to book another booster on the NHS website this evening.
I am on chemo so immumosupressed.
So if life for you, like me, is continuing to be fraught with decisions and frustration, go get yours too. Good luck 😀

Congratulations!

Apparently I'm not vulnerable enough, though I did have a pneumonia vaccination last week which is supposed to help if I catch the Plague.

Now that even my sensible friends & relations have gone all vaccine sceptical, I feel like the whole world is trying to kill me with their germs!

Stay safe, @StarJumpAlertTakeCover, and get well soon.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 06/04/2023 00:03

Thank you! I've got a slot. I've been checking and there was nothing doing but tonight they were letting me book.

Maple2023 · 06/04/2023 00:04

When did you have your last? Mine was September then I caught covid in December so not sure when to have one

StarJumpAlertTakeCover · 06/04/2023 02:50

Well actually my last booster was January. I was sent a standard letter by the oncology team stating that I was eligible for a booster every three months. I was just about to start the chemo then, so possibly that's why.
However I had to dispute it; as initially they refused to honour it when I turned up at the vaccination centre. The pharmacist on duty said she'd never heard of it, and couldn't find any guidance online to support it. But mostly I think because the software couldn't record it!
I offered to leave and speak directly to the oncology team I'm under to get their perspective. Which I did and returned the following day and they accepted it.
I am CEV unfortunately. Had chemo and radiotherapy at the start of the pandemic. So deemed unlikely to have sufficient antibodies.
My DP also CEV, unfortunately also big C.
So when people say things like we need to get on with it ... I say well lucky old you; you don't need to be cautious.
We have children who don't wish to lose us yet.
Apologies. Frustrating and upsetting times here.
Anyhow good luck to you all and thank you so much for your kind wishes.

I'll have a look and see if I can book Smile thanks
I'm neutropenic so eligible

Useruser1 · 06/04/2023 11:03

What are your covid (current weak strain) risks v your risks of a (4th? 5th?) Jab?

As far as I know there are no "studies" into all the extra boosters, last one was in the us "bivalent" booster done on 8 mice

All the best whatever you decide

Not really the place
This is for people who are at risk from covid still, don't have antibodies maybe and have likely spoken to consultants at length
Me getting another vaccine is not anyone else's business except mine and my haematologist

nether · 06/04/2023 20:30

We're going to see if the local drop in is still functioning for the critically vulnerable person in the household (who may or may nor make antibodies, and whose 7th jab it will be)

What's a bit rubbish is that, unlike in earlier rounds, the rest of the immediate household are not eligible.

Timeforchangeithink · 06/04/2023 20:38

I am CEV and waiting to start chemo but won't be getting a booster, indeed didn't take the last one either. I've had COVID a month ago and it was a few days feeling bad, nothing more. I think by now everyone can make their own mind up without the CEV blackmail posts?

AutisticLegoLover · 06/04/2023 20:43

I'd be lining up if I wasn't still ill with covid. Day 12 or something I think and testing negative now but still feel rubbish. I'll be having my booster as soon as I'm able. I had Coc

AutisticLegoLover · 06/04/2023 20:46

I had covid in October for the first time and was very ill. If I hadn't been vaccinated I'd have been in hospital I think. This time has been quite mild but long lasting. I'll happily take every booster available.
The guidelines now for covid are so useless. Don't test and go about your business. If you do test try to stay at home . Spread it round basically.

Uh huh. Once you're actually on chemo and your immunity is zero you might change your mind.

Gosh, it took me a couple of seconds to find this study or "study". Not on mice.

Effectiveness of Bivalent Boosters against Severe Omicron Infection | NEJM

This was just the first study referenced in a quick search; there are also numerous reports on other studies, sorry "studies".

You are also misinformed re this current strain being "weak". All that said, wrong thread, wrong time to air your silly views.

The pneumonia vaccination is excellent. are you posting from a plague area?

I am very surprised to hear you can have vaccinations while on chemotherapy

nether · 07/04/2023 06:22

Yes, you can have vaccinations when on chemo.

There's a good chance that they will not work well, if at all. But as the government refused to fund the prophylactic monoclonal antibody treatrments (approved by MHRA a year ago, effective all last year, now out-evolved by the virus), that's all they've got to "protect" the most vulnerable.

Even in USA the MABs were available free as prophylaxis. Wondering what will happen here when the updated version of the treatment (ka Evusheld 2) is ready (in trials at the moment)

Ridiculous to bring this kind of nonsense onto a thread - both COVID minimising and vaccine scaremongering @Useruser1 . Another new username too.

A minority of people are offered COVID boosters currently, and it's because their risk is significantly higher than that of the general population.

Are you a research scientist? Many people are on their "20th" "21st" influenza jab because seasonal boosters are necessary for certain vaccines/pathogenes. We do not test for safety/vaccine efficacy in the same way as when a vaccine is newly developed because it is not needed.

I think the crucial line is "as far as I know" .

Is that as a research scientist? working in bio medicine? are you a paid and experienced in this area ?

Nope didn't think so.

Just a random internet warrior who can't even post under a name that doesn't look made up just to spread nonsense.

Crikeyalmighty · 25/04/2023 16:30

Given that my last booster (4th jab) 8 months ago triggered chronic neuro issues within 5 days and that have never gone away - I'm giving it a swerve

Over 9 billion covid vaccination shots worldwide. Mathematically speaking, the risks of a severe adverse event are therefore miniscule, but horrible when it occurs. Risks of severe adverse event from Covid itself, far higher.

I am not arguing with you about your 8 mice.

GoldenAye · 26/04/2023 04:31

@milkyaqua I wouldn't bother with this one. It's been about before (and before, and before) if you get my drift.

MinkyGreen · 26/04/2023 06:11

@PoisonedPens

Posts get banned if they break Mumsnet guidelines : i.e. spreading health misinformation. Not because a poster you object to reports a post. This is a parenting forum. There may be pregnant women reading, there may be vulnerable people coming here for advice.

For the safest medical advice, you follow the consensus global opinion. You follow the NHS guidelines. The vaccine is safe and effective. No country anywhere -across the globe - is saying otherwise.
