I tested positive today after having a s ratchet sure throat on and off since Saturday and feeling very tired this week. My period arrived on Monday and I put the tiredness down to that as I usually feel wiped out the day before. The sore throat woke me up the other night but felt better yesterday. Today despite lots of rest and sleep and painkillers I felt worse so took a test. It showed up immediately. Bollocks. It feels like a cold and hayfever. Headache but not too bad, congested but not too bad, sore throat but not too bad, backache but could be period, itchy ear canals and throat and palate. Mainly feel crap and very tired. The 3 mile round trip school run on foot isn't helping matter.

Last time I had it was October and I was very unwell. Bed to sofa, sofa to bed for the best part of 2 weeks. Not great as a lone parent to 2 dc, one who also had covid at the save time. I needed steroids and antibiotics for 14 days for my chest. I have asthma. The body aches were horrendous and I struggled to stay awake during the day. I'm dreading being like that again. I've had another booster since then and I'm hoping that will keep the worst of it at bay. I've had 5 vaccines now. Possibly 6, I can't remember. I'm not impressed I've got it again and am clinically extremely vulnerable so despite feeling not too bad considering I'm worried.

How were you with your second infection?

Are you eligible for anti-virals as you are CEV?
Hope you feel better soon

Jules912 · 29/03/2023 17:44

I found first time was the worst, second so mild I probably wouldn't have tested it weren't for known exposure, third time somewhere in the middle so not sure there's any logic to it.

AutisticLegoLover · 29/03/2023 17:55

Last time I was told I wasn't eligible for the antivirals.
There probably isn't any logic and I'd still be pushing on but I'm a carer and was too tired yesterday to go and I'm glad I didn't now.

Snap! I'm also asthmatic, tested positive today after feeling rough yesterday. First time I had it was also last October.

Not faring too badly TBH. Sore throat, cold, bunged up, sore chest. Midly fluey and achy but nowhere near as bad as last time when I was in bed for a couple of days and slept a lot. I'm managing to WFH with a few breaks.

You won't get anti virals unfortunately so hope you feel better soon and it stays mild for you as well.

juliettesmother · 29/03/2023 20:05

Second time was still rough but the first dose (before vaccinations) was awful. Symptoms much worse and for longer.

Second time, the tiredness lingered

SNWannabe · 29/03/2023 20:08

Sorry to say second was far far worse than the October 2020 version for me. First time lost smell and vague aches and mild tiredness. This time utter exhaustion, fever and chills, nausea and diarrhoea, and the full two weeks needed off work. Sore throat, headache from hell…

AutisticLegoLover · 30/03/2023 07:32

I'm feeling rough this morning. My chest is tighter, hot and cold, more mucousy, cough, headache worse and feeling weak. I've asked another parent if they can take ds to school for me. its rubbish.

I had covid in the very first wave and my goodness I was so unwell and it took about 9 months to fully recover. I had it again around 6 weeks ago, had about three days in bed and then a couple, of weeks of feeling a bit tired. The difference was night and day. Get well soon.

Namechangingagain111 · 30/03/2023 08:28

I've had it twice: Feb 2020 then June 2022
Both times it knocked me sideways, was unwell for about 10 days
For me there was no difference in severity having been fully jabbed before the 2nd infection.
Everyone is different though

Wineloffa · 31/03/2023 11:35

I’m recovering from my third bout of Covid and this was my worst experience yet! I’ve had pains in my back, arms and legs. A headache, blocked sinuses and ears, a persistent cough, dizziness and a racing heart.

It’s 2 weeks since I tested positive and although I felt a bit better over the past few days, today I’m floored with fatigue and the racing heart is back..

I first had it in Dec 2020 before vaccines were available. It was pretty mild but I did suffer from brain fog for about 6 months afterwards.

The 2nd time I had it was Dec 2021, again a mild enough dose that I recovered from quite quickly. I should say I’ve also had 2 vaccines and a booster.

AutisticLegoLover · 31/03/2023 11:43

I'm feeling much better this morning and took ds to school. It made me breathless though. Going to have a sleep now before the afternoon school run. I've just been on the sofa otherwise resting.
Get well soon pp!

Hope you are feeling better.

I'm on round 2 and it is so much worse. I also thought it was hayfever to begin with. I'm on day 11 now of symptoms and have been testing positive since day 6 and I feel absolutely awful. I haven't left my house for days because I can barely get myself out of bed. By this point the last time I was back at work.

redredblue2 · 03/04/2023 18:18

My second bout was better.

Third more intense but I bounced back more quickly than the other two. Though querying if I've now got heart palpitations from it.

redredblue2 · 03/04/2023 18:18

I hope you feel better soon. It's evil.

SmartHome · 03/04/2023 18:20

I had it three times in 2022. First was chcking and took week sto recover. Second i woudlnt even have know I had it excpet tested positive for a travel thing. Third was also really bad, not far off teh ifrsttime but I think I cleared it quicker - though did get a secondary chest infection. Such a weird virus. hope you feel better soon.

SmartHome · 03/04/2023 18:20

Shocking

redredblue2 · 03/04/2023 18:28

Anecdotally from work, everyone is different. Some seem to get worse each time, some seem to find it easier. Some never know they've got it, others have long covid. Some have had it 5 times, a couple have never had it.

LanaDelRabies · 04/04/2023 08:35

I've had it nine times and from my experience there is absolutely no rhyme or reason when it comes to severity.

First time (March 2020) was fairly brutal. Second (Aug 21) practically asymptomatic, but I'd had two jabs by then. The worst one was March last year - I'd had five jabs by then but tested positive the day after my fifth so it probably didn't help much! I was positive for four weeks and still unwell six weeks later.

Since then I've had it three more times since. All infections apart from March 20 and March last year have been mild.

Timbot · 04/04/2023 09:16

I'm on my second time. Had it March last year. Fully jabbed. About day 4 now. Feel rough. Been feverish, tight chest and burning sinuses and head pain. I don't know if I feel worse than last time but I do know that work are wanting me back in and talking about us having to live with it. I preferred it last time when I got a good week and a bit of to recover

AutisticLegoLover · 04/04/2023 11:41

I've just retested and still positive although the line is faint now. Hopefully by Easter it will be negative. I've had symptoms for 11 days now.

OP posts:
AutisticLegoLover · 05/04/2023 18:36

Negative today but now have a dodgy stomach. Lots of stomach cramps and considering I'm normally bunged up I am definitely not now. Anyone else had this? I've eaten nothing unusual to explain it. My feet are freezing too since yesterday. In fact my stomach hasn't been happy since yesterday. On the plus side the sinus pain is much better!
