Post covid - dizziness, sinus pain and fatigue

Hello,

Looking for advice really. Had COVID for the 3rd time a week or so ago and felt really terrible with it.

I've been negative for a week now but have been left with dizziness and episodes of feeling faint and burning sinus and head pain.

I also feel so tired and have neck pain too and last night feels like one of my ears has blocked.

Has anyone else experienced this? If you did, how long did it go on for? I'm thinking I might need to speak to a GP as it's really impacting what I can do each day.

Also forgot to say I keep getting a racing heart and sweating!

I think I am in the same boat. I had a virus about two weeks ago. I didn’t test because I don’t have any but I think there’s a good chance it was Covid, mainly because I keep smelling phantom baked beans which is exactly what happened the first time I had Covid! It seems to be taking a while to recover. I’m very fatigued and having dizzy spells, though I’m not experiencing the pain that you’re having.

Personally I have no plan to go to the Dr and am just waiting it out, but as you are in pain, you might understandably want to get checked.

dizzydizzydizzy · 27/03/2023 09:38

Speak to your GP, OP. It might be sinusitis. Some antibiotics will clear it up.

Beaverbridge · 27/03/2023 09:39

Me too, exact same symptoms as you. Horrendous.

AuntiePhoenixClaw · 27/03/2023 09:45

Sounds like sinusitis, antibiotics are only needed if the sinus are infected, what colour is your snot? It does sound like yours may have reached the level of antibiotics needed.

Try steaming your face and facial massage, check on you tube and if brave enough do a saline nasal rinse. I have had sinusitis for years but had the worst I have ever had after a virus last December, it was worse than the original cold by far. Eating wasabi is also good.

Fedupofchangingusernames · 27/03/2023 12:04

I'm sorry to hear others are feeling the same. It's really awful isn't it.

I think my snot is a normal colour? The pain and now all these other weird symptoms that are just so crap.

I'll give my GP a call and see what they say.

Yes, same boat here, you have my sympathies OP.

Tested positive 3 weeks ago today and I'm just finishing a 5 day course of antibiotics for sinusitis and although no more snot, my sinuses feel on fire and under such pressure.

Also had an aura migraine today to top it off which is my first migraine in a very long time.

Honestly feel like I've been flattened by covid this time round and am soo deflated that I just don't seem to be feeling any better. Every day seems to bring something new!

Periornot · 27/03/2023 16:08

Hi OP, sympathies. I had some of those symptoms with covid (headache, tiredness, feeling faint esp following any mild exercise), but some additional symptoms similar to yours started a few weeks after covid (strong sinus pain, blocked ear, dizziness). Is dizziness worse when you get up? Some people (me included) now have a rapid drop in blood pressure when doing things like that which make dizziness worse. Has your blood pressure dropped do you know? Are your symptoms worse when you've overdone it? Try to rest as much as feasible.

popsickle555 · 27/03/2023 17:32

I had this recently, Covid for a week (relatively mild for me but I took paxlovid) but shortly after it I started having bad sinus pain. I thought it was just aftermath but it worsened and I also got the dizziness etc. after about 5 days I thought it was improving and so I resumed most normal activity. After a day or two more it came back worse and so I went to the GP who prescribed antibiotics (after poking my face!) and said I should have come sooner. The antibiotics helped and I was ok after another week or so but it was very painful and not a fun few weeks. I hadn’t realised how bad a sinus infection can be and I hadn’t realised it is so common after Covid.

the racing heart is something different. I had that also with Covid the first and second time, rest a lot and let yourself recover but get the sinus thing checked. Also yes check your BP and take electrolyte drinks.

sadly it’s pretty ‘normal’ for Covid to take people 4-6 weeks to recover from when it’s not long Covid.

I’ve had long Covid for 18 months, recovered but then caught it a second time and took about 4-6 weeks to get over that. 3rd time wasn’t too bad but I think that’s because I took the paxlovid but the sinus infection after prolonged it all.

Wineloffa · 28/03/2023 07:48

I tested positive for Covid 10 days ago for the 3rd time and this has definitely been my worst experience of it! I had dizziness, back pain, pains in my arms and legs, coughing, fatigue..

I’m now testing negative on tests but my nose / sinuses are stuffed with gunge (especially in the mornings), I have a lingering headache, my ears are blocked and I’m shattered tired. This morning I even woke up with a sore throat, although that’s gone already. I’ve never had any of this when recovering from my previous bouts of Covid. So weird! Hoping it passes soon.

About the racing heart, I had this last week and it was awful, a bit scary actually. Think it’s common with Covid.

suzyscat · 28/03/2023 12:55

I had months of sinusitis after covidand a nearly a year of vertigo after my 3rd vaccine.
The vertigo came on for the first time straight after the jab and got progressively worse then better using the aply manoeuvre (or something that sounds like that.)

I've been given antibiotics for sinusitis and also a steroid nasal spray so am hoping that helps.

Doc also said my eustacian(?) tube is blocked so that's causing the dizziness etc but that can take up to 4 to 6 weeks to clear.

Totally agree that this variant seems way more brutal than previous ones.

Ever since my first COVID infection, even a normal cold takes an age to get over.

Solidarity to everyone feeling this crappy, it's so horrible and miserable.

From Sunday last week, I had neck pain, one blocked ear with tinnitus and vague swimminess plus vertigo for one bad sicky 2 hour episode a day. I was freaking out until all vertigo/head/ear symptoms suddenly stopped with first positive test and symptoms of covid starting this last Saturday. I had a sore throat, chesty cough, headache and temp for two days then it all went away again. I am here because I had another vertigo attack lying down in bed last night with the neck/ear symptoms back. The attack is always preceded by worsening tinnitus and pressure in the ear. I felt like there was an octopus moving around my skull. Now I feel like the octopus is just asleep, wrapped tight around my head.
My husband gave it to me from the US so I guess it is the XBB1.5. Which looks from this thread, like it can bring vertigo. First time I ever had Covid, fully jabbed including the bi-valent one.
My sinuses feel like the lining is on fire. My neck is stiff. This is shit. Solidarity to you all.

Aaaand it's positive

mylot · 14/04/2023 21:15

So to follow up - because no one, NO ONE ever does. You're there... frantically googling, wanting real people to document stuff with good news, explanations, positive resolutions and just finding endless accounts of, 'yep sounds like me right now'.

I had vertigo for a week before I had a covid positive test ( and I tested every day due to working with the elderly). When the covid finally hit, all ear, tinnitus, balance stuff completely disappeared for 3 days. Then it came back again for another week which is when I posted here. It was once a day, at the same time-ish for a few hours. The vertigo attacks then went slowly away. Took about three weeks overall. I now have swiminess if the air pressure tanks and a pretty much constant headache at the base of my neck and a numb ear.

nicky2512 · 14/04/2023 21:19

Ds (17) has had awful sinusitis since having covid. It’s making his migraine worse too. He’s on a six week antibiotic at the minute, antihistamine and a steroid nasal spray. He’s been having bad nose bleeds too which the spray might be making worse

CreationNat1on · 15/04/2023 08:09

Had covid approx 2 weeks ago, was feeling unwell, sore, itchy sinuses for about 3 days before getting a positive test, also a but light headed and out of it.

When it got bad, for about 3 days, OMG throat and head were quite sore and inflamed, sinuses all tender, ears blocked.

Improved, but really tired for the following three days. Then I got my period, combined with a massive cold sore about a day later.

Still mildly weak, low energy. Last Thursday night, felt like retching while brushing my teeth, stopped brushing, felt dizzy and had ringing/buzzing in my ears, had to lie down as thought I was gonna faint.

Feel a good bit better now, but am cautious, think I need to nourish myself, take my vits.

Bimblesalong · 15/04/2023 21:23

Tested positive 10 days ago and have been negative for four. Still wiped out and have a “wet” set of lungs. Early days still and definitely less awful than the first time (delta) but urgh. I’m so fed up!

I also got my period, a week early, the day I tested positive (which was just. so. ffing perfect...) There's also a thinking that old viruses like glandular fever and herpes simplex can be reactivated by covid. Which might explain a cold sore. HSV can also affect the inner ear - I found some interesting takes on this on the Meniere's disease website. Good luck everyone. I blame the Tories.

CreationNat1on · 16/04/2023 19:38

Wow, thank you, I ll read up on that.

Aslican · 07/10/2023 19:25

Sounds like you could be experiencing migraines - these often involve sinus pain and dizziness/light-headedness (even without the headache). I’ve had similar symptoms and have ended up being referred to a Long/Post-Covid clinic. Hope you’re feeling better.

Angmom · 22/02/2024 18:27

I am in the same boat. It’s been a month and I have spurts of dizziness, foggy, tired and a severe sinus infection. It’s terrible. I had the heart racing but I think it was because I was panicking wondering what was wrong with me. After many tests I know it’s long covid and really bad sinus infection. It’s terrible.
