Rules for school staff after testing positive?

Ds said this week that one of his teachers is in school, teaching as normal saying they they’ve tested positive for covid. Their partner also had it so they tested but as they don’t feel particularly unwell they’re able to carry on as normal.

Another friend who works in a school recently tested positive - they tested due to living with an elderly family member who also had it, and they have had 5 days off work despite not feeling unwell.

what are your schools’ policies for staff who test positive?

5 days off. SEND school. Lots of vulnerable students

YomAsalYomBasal · 19/03/2023 17:41

Our staff are still staying at home until they test negative. We have staff with underlying conditions so it seemed the only sensible thing to do. What we can't do any more is make people test.

Tiredforfive45 · 19/03/2023 17:44

Stay off if you don’t feel well enough to come in. Otherwise, come to work as normal.

Pinkflipflop85 · 19/03/2023 17:45

Work as normal.

samsonthecat · 19/03/2023 17:58

Work as normal unless you actually feel unwell.

Nimbostratus100 · 19/03/2023 17:59

stay home until testing negative

Work as normal unless you actually feel unwell.

meaning any vulnerable staff or students have to stay home, how ridiculous

samsonthecat · 19/03/2023 18:01

I didn’t make the rule!

DDs SEN school has a strict policy of no staff or pupils in with positive test or symptoms.

One school locally is actively discouraging staff from testing. I’m very pleased, given DDs vulnerability, that my other two don’t go there.

Nik2015 · 19/03/2023 18:03

Go into work unless you’re ill. Encouraged not to test from what I can make out.

Mrswalliams1 · 19/03/2023 18:04

Rules are you should only be off if you are too unwell to work. Doesn't matter if you are positive.

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 19/03/2023 18:07

At my other DDs school the policy is still test of have symptoms and stay off of positive.

They’ve also encouraged people to be honest if they’re sending well, but positive children in (they can’t refuse them). With permission, for example, all of the parents in DDs class know she has a very vulnerable sibling and another child has a CEV parent. So we’ve been given a heads up before school twice that someone was coming in who had a positive parent. Allowing us to make choices.

it’s really well done tbh

Five days at home. That’s the local council rules where I work. My friend who teaches in a neighboring council can go in if she’s well enough when testing positive.

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 19/03/2023 18:12

Our policy is work as normal unless you feel unwell.

we had a very strongly worded email from our HR person stating categorically that testing positive for Covid was not a reason alone not to be in school and teaching.

Theimpossiblegirl · 19/03/2023 18:15

Told not to test.
If you're too ill to work stay off, otherwise crack on. Same as any other illness.

CountryParsonPetal · 19/03/2023 18:16

Our school discourages testing, they say Covid should be treated as any other cold or virus and we need to come in as usual. If you do a test (the message is that this is frowned upon) you should take 3 days off is it is positive.

Sortinshit23 · 19/03/2023 18:21

Don't test. But once you have tested and are positive, you need to stay off for 5 days.

DumpedByText · 19/03/2023 18:26

I work in a high school, it's 5 days off, regardless of you feel unwell or not.

Forever42 · 19/03/2023 18:29

Still 5 days here. Presumably to lessen the likelihood of other staff catching it and being off sick.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 19/03/2023 18:31

Wow. It’s very varied!

Those of you who are testing, are LFTs accepted as proof or do you have access to PCRs?

I didn’t think PCRs existed any more 🤷🏼‍♀️

Treated now as a virus. Back to school when feeling well but be careful eg avoid Staffroom/crowded areas, for a few days

Muchtoomuchtodo · 19/03/2023 20:01

@Hihosilver123 we have to attend a public health testing site to get a PCR if we’re symptomatic (NHS Wales)

Gosh. Didn’t know that. Thought PacRs were a thing of the past. Interesting.

AnonymousArabella · 19/03/2023 20:34

Don’t test.

But if you do, come in if you’re well enough.
