Do all these tests show a bit of a line?

We do have Covid in the house so I'm expecting a positive eventually.

But compared to my sons test which is a blazing positive, I wondered if this make always generally showed a bit of a line because the one from the supermarket this morning was completely negative, then the NHS ones arrived in the post so I tried another.

Do all these tests show a bit of a line?

If you upload the pics into the NHS Covid report a result app, they have special diagnostic tech that can tell if its positive even if you cant see a line. I think it can take 5-7 days to see a line after exposure do you may just be a little early.

FourBoysAndAFeline · 12/03/2023 13:42

I don't know how long ago I was exposed.
Work colleagues have been dropping like flies and DS has been unwell since Wednesday last week.

I didn't know about that NHS test option though, thanks for that info!

I cannot see what app you mean.

I can see a line, and given the situation it's quite possible it is covid. Maybe test again tomorrow and see if the line has developed.

However I always get a line on those surescreen tests, so I think there's also an issue with that particular brand of tests.

SummerHolidaysAgain · 12/03/2023 14:08

What @Redannie118 means is on the gov/NHS app where you record your test results, there is an option to send in a photo of the test cassette and they interpret the result for you and tell you if it's negative or positive.

(Although again when I had a faint positive on the surescreen before the app said it was positive, but I don't think it actually was as I was negative on other brands of tests)

Yeah I did that and they said this was negative Hmm which delayed me getting antivirals

What?! That's crazy!!

There is definitely a line there. If not already done so, next time swab your throat/cheeks, then your nose, to the nasopharynx.
Though, if you have covid in the house it's pretty sensible to believe the positive result. Hope you all recover well without consequences.

Well funny you should say that, once it dried, it was a "barely there" mark like I have had on them previously (and been negative).

So im inclined to assume it's negative but test again first thing tomorrow.

Definitely a line there. What do you mean, once it dried? Did you read it in the time given?

Jules912 · 12/03/2023 16:00

My DS often gets lines like that on the flowflex ones, we just ignore them now unless there's any red. Saying that my latest round I got a line that was only slightly stronger on the Thursday, negative on the Friday and faint but definitely there in the Saturday. Like you inclined to believe it as rest of the household had already tested positive.

The photo was within the time frame still.

Once it was dry it wasn't.

It's really important to check any test only within the time frame stated.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 12/03/2023 17:09

I can see a line.

I had Covid 5 weeks ago. I never hit a particularly strong test result, but I was proper poorly for about 4 days.

FourBoysAndAFeline · 12/03/2023 17:15

This is the line now.

Definitely a line

Aria20 · 12/03/2023 18:18

That's definitely positive - I don't know why you are even doubting it especially with covid in the house. The nhs tests are supposed to be more sensitive than the supermarket ones so would make sense why you got positive on them but not the others.

FourBoysAndAFeline · 12/03/2023 18:29

Update - took another this evening and there's not mistaking this one.

That is interesting, I didn't realise that. Thank you.

I wasn't doubting it, I was questioning it.
What I didn't want to do was the call into work with "Covid" but it actually have been a negative test and to get a genuine positive on say, Thursday and have taken unnecessary time off work.

I say off work, I will work from home but that's the gist of it.

Thanks for your help everyone.

Where did you hear that? Not being goady, genuine question. In my past experience the flow flex ones which are the ones you get in the supermarket have always shown things up much sooner than the NHS ones.

Aria20 · 13/03/2023 08:55

@SummerHolidaysAgain it was the hospital at my son's pre op appointment that told us that - who knows if it is actually true!

LanaDelRabies · 13/03/2023 09:21

That's definitely positive of course but I always get a faint line with this brand. I test a couple of times a week and have had covid nine times so I'm pretty well versed in just about every kind of LFT and how they perform! The nose only ones always give me a faint positive for some reason.

Can I ask how you have had covid nine times?
How are you feeling?

I'm immunosuppressed and live with a teacher! A recipe for disaster.

I don't feel that there have been any lasting effects, although my underlying condition (an autoimmune disease) has symptoms which are very like those of long covid so it's hard to be sure.
