Just tested positive for the first time ever. My partner has had raging cold symptoms the last week and tests negative. How is this even possible? We both live in the same house. If we both have symptoms how are we not both testing positive? 😷

Same here. I have it for the second time. Partner had a bad cold last week and has been negative. He hasn’t had it once.

ShakespearesBlister · 14/02/2023 16:21

I can't work it out. It's a bloody conspiracy!

ThePixiesTookIt · 14/02/2023 16:38

Well he hasn't tested positive, doesn't mean he hasn't had it. I had it for the first time a couple of months ago and didn't test positive until I started to feel better, same with a few people I know. Most people won't bother testing when they start to feel better and tbh by then you've probably gone past the contagious stage anyway.

ShakespearesBlister · 14/02/2023 17:36

That's true. It's the light aversion that the worst bit. Never felt like this before.

MargaretThursday · 14/02/2023 17:54

I don't think light aversion is a normal symptom of covid?
Can you end you neck to kiss your knee?
If not get checked out please.

MargaretThursday · 14/02/2023 17:55

Bend your neck thst is

LilyMumsnet · 14/02/2023 17:58

We're just moving this over to the covid topic. Flowers

TheSnowyOwl · 14/02/2023 18:03

I wouldn’t rule out him having a cold, and you also having a cold and covid. There are so many viruses doing the rounds at the moment that it’s quite feasible to have two at once. He might test positive for covid at the weekend.

Hiddenvoice · 14/02/2023 18:06

I wouldn’t rule him out of having covid. My partner tested positive 10 days before me but my symptoms started at the exact same time. I was then much better by the time I finally tested positive

bakewellbride · 14/02/2023 18:44

It's quite common for it to not spread within the household just not widely known as the media obviously never reported that!

Get well soon op. Flowers I had it for the first time recently too. Better and negative again in 9 days.

ShakespearesBlister · 15/02/2023 18:25

Thank you all. What I've found is lights are giving me headaches and that's not usual for me but I've read it can be a symptom with some people. Day 4 of symptoms now and it's not worse but not any better. I'm hoping it only lasts a week for me too. It's rotten.

Did you have symptoms for the whole 9 days?

OP posts:
ShakespearesBlister · 17/02/2023 20:12

Well symptoms started Sunday and I tested positive Tuesday three times. I've been ill all week and just did a test tonight which was negative. I'm reading you can get a negative then positive again so I'll try again tomorrow and hope that I get two negatives.

OP posts:
ShakespearesBlister · 18/02/2023 10:10

Well, today's test had a faint second line. Still positive. 🤢

OP posts:
claireymrsd · 18/02/2023 10:23

I wasn't double negative until day 11 and hubby still very faint on day 16 - he gave up testing then!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 18/02/2023 11:07

I stopped testing when I got to 10 days after my positive test! I was allowed back in the office then so I didn't see the point

ShakespearesBlister · 18/02/2023 12:54

Yeah day 6 today but I think by my day 10 which will be Tuesday I'll be ok. Thing is today's test was a really strong positive almost like when I was at the height of infection.

OP posts:
ShakespearesBlister · 18/02/2023 12:55

Sorry forgot to say I did a second test today to be sure - the 2nd was a really strong positive.

Your partner likely had covid too. LFTs are not as reliable with all the new variants. The best way to test is to swab your inner cheek, back of your throat, and nostrils, making sure you've not eaten or drunk for at least 30 mins. A simple nose swab isn't sufficient. Even then many people aren't getting a positive test till day 3-5 after symptoms start

YearoftheRabbit23 · 18/02/2023 13:01

As long as you're testing positive you are infectious. The 5 day isolation period means many people are leaving isolation at peak infectiousness.

I tested positive for 13 days but felt fine by day 5, however my lines were still very dark positive and didn't start fading till about day 11.

Also just seen data showing that flu and RSV incidence is low at the moment in the UK so if you have any symptoms now it's likely COVID.

GooseberryCinnamonYogurt · 05/03/2023 08:58

I've tested positive for covid - triple jabbed - first time for me. What can I expect, at the moment it just feels like a cold.

YearoftheRabbit23 · 05/03/2023 11:16

@GooseberryCinnamonYogurt well done for avoiding it for so long, the fewer times you can get infected the better.
It may very well just stay like a cold. Mine was a slight scratchy throat and slight congestion, nothing serious, but I did lose my sense of taste and smell about 6 days in. It came back gradually over a week. I tested positive for 13 days.

GooseberryCinnamonYogurt · 06/03/2023 06:54

Thanks, it's just like a heavy cold at the moment. I can't taste anything either.

I wonder if the vaccine immunity is wearing off?

That was me a month ago.
Felt like a very bad head cold and extreme fatigue.
2 days in bed and the worst passed.
2 more days to feel better enough to get up.
2 more days isolating in my bedroom to protect the rest of the household, but I went out for evening walks.

A month later, no problems at all.

GooseberryCinnamonYogurt · 07/03/2023 18:15

Is feeling low a symptom because all I can do is sit here feeling sad that I'm in my own feeling unwell. (Partner died 1 year ago)
