Persistent sore throat/hoarse voice after Covid

Hi there
I had Covid (for the 2nd time) just after Christmas and was flattened by it.
The 2nd week I pretty much lost my voice and had an excruciatingly sore throat along with a horrible cough.

This eventually got better, after a short course of steroids and I went back to work.
I am a teacher so I use/need my voice on a daily basis.

2 weeks later my voice became hoarse again and the sore throat was back. I had another short course of steroids which helped - just finished the steroids yesterday and the sore throat is already back again.

Has anyone else had anything similar? Did it eventually sort itself out or do I need to go back to the GP?

Thank you

Have you tested for Covid again? My first bout of Covid started with a sore sore. I was quite unwell. I have had Covid a few times since and each one has started with a sore throat.

I havn't @Flounder2022 - I assumed it wouldn't be possible to be reinfected so soon after the original infection.
I don't have any other symptoms other than the sore throat (and lingering tiredness) at the moment.

It's probably unlikely but I have heard of a good few people reinfected quite quickly (I assume different variants?)

Hope you find a resolution soon! I have long Covid over 2 years and the lingering effects of Covid can be tough!!

I would ask for an ENT referral and speech therapy. It's quite likely that you have some form of vocal fold issue either due to persistent swelling of the folds, cough injury, or straining your voice at work. Probably over a long period things will resolve but you could end up with a longer term problem due to your job.

If you can afford a private ENT appointment for speed, do consider it, but your GP should refer you as a priority because of your work.

In the meantime, try following Voice Fit on Instagram for general advice. She's an absolutely brilliant therapist and lovely person with years of NHS experience before going private.

That's really helpful, thank you @PermanentTemporary

I'm having the same problem. Tested positive Christmas Eve, I'm negative now but very croaky. I've had a terrible cough most of that time, though, so I think a lot of it is down to that.
