Covid vaccine changes

Does anyone know when the covid vaccines will stop being offered to those aged 12 and over? I know the booster jabs are stopping on 12th feb but am wondering about the first vaccines? Main reason being that I’ve booked a holiday for August not realising it requires my daughter (aged 12) to be vaccinated. I will have to cancel the holiday if the rule stays as it is. Thanks

my husband and I are fully vaccinated but don’t want my daughter to have it if she doesn’t need it

Sorry should have explained- I’m hoping the vaccine stops being offered to 12 year olds so the holiday company will review their policy!

What country have you booked to that this is the case? The USA is the most high-profile country I know of that still needs it for entry, but I thought that requirement was only for over-18s.

The initial vaccine offer for most over-50s will end some time during 2023 but I don't think they've announced a date as yet.

Obviously I meant under-50s, not over-50s. Hah!

KangarooKenny · 04/02/2023 18:07

As far as I’m aware you are always going to be able to get the first 2 jabs, with boosters offered as necessary to the vulnerable

newyorky09 · 04/02/2023 18:09

thanks for the info. It’s a cruise. We’ve never been on one before so didn’t realise until after booking it (my own fault for not checking).

It may not be the holiday company making the rules, but the countries that you are visiting.
They are unlikely to change their rules based on what the NHS is offering as we saw during the pandemic.
where are you hooking to board and what ports will you be stopping at?

SquigglePigs · 10/02/2023 10:08

I'm glad I stumbled on this thread. I didn't know they were stopping boosters. I'd been called for a booster in November but I had covid so couldn't have it. Then to be honest put it off in the tub into/through Christmas because I always felt so rough after it. Then I've had a chest infection followed by some other bug since just before New Year so again had put it off. I've now got a slot booked for tomorrow morning!

newyorky09 · 10/02/2023 10:18

It’s the holiday company who have made the rules. Have checked all the countries we will visit (France, Spain and Italy) and vaccine rules no longer apply.

Well, she needs it if you want your holiday...

newyorky09 · 10/02/2023 10:20

According to NHS England at some point in 2023 first dose vaccines will become more targeted (eg to those with health problems) but I’m not sure when this will be.

Aren’t you better off asking the cruise company if they anticipate any changes and if not get cracking with getting your dd vaccinated if you definitely want to go on that particular holiday?

They need 12 weeks between doses.

RingRingRingGoesTheTelephone · 10/02/2023 10:29

When is the holiday? You could wait and see, not sure how many weeks after vaccination it has to be for you to tick the "vaccinated" box? If the policy is still in place get her vaccinated just in time (assuming you are happy to). If they change their policy, great. You still go either way.

If you are dead against her having it would you lose your money cancelling now? If you'd get something back now, I'd cancel.

If you lose money either way just wait and see, lose your money if it doesn't change.

Not really a valid reason to give a child this vaccine.

What is the company? I don't see how a holiday company can arbitrarily insist you have a particular medical treatment or you won't get the holiday you paid for!

Particularly since you'd (ostensibly) be giving over private medical information to a leisure/entertainment company purely because they decided they wanted it. That's completely different to a national government asking for this info for immigration purposes.

newyorky09 · 11/02/2023 20:42

The company is TUI still hoping they will change the rule! If not we will have to cancel but will lose our deposit 😥

I've looked it up and it's not clear how this outdated "rule" still applies. I think you need to phone them and determine that this isn't going to affect you.

newyorky09 · 11/02/2023 21:46

Sadly I’ve rung them several times and they keep telling me the rule still applies at present

It’s still on the vaccine schedule that anyone over 5 should be offered the first two.
Cant see that changing soon, as an autumn booster is set to be announced for the ECV.

Wishfulthinking1977 · 11/02/2023 22:23

Hi OP just checked tui cruise vaccine requirements as my parents cruise loads and the only one now asking is saga! It's only for Marbella? Unless you are going there you don't need it! I can attach screenshot of needed xx
