I’m turning 50 in a few weeks, so not yet eligible for the current booster. They are apparently stopping the current vax programme in February, so I won’t be able to get it even once I’m 50. I had covid in Sept 22, last vaxxed in Dec 2021.

I’m wondering whether to try and get one before they stop offering them by saying that I’m a carer. I’m definitely not a carer, although I do regularly spend time with my mum (81), and my biggest fear throughout covid was inadvertently passing it on to her. I’m normally very much one for sticking by the rules, but would you (have you?) got a booster in this way?

Yes. I'm a similar age and a carer so had mine with my son in November. If I were you I would have no qualms saying I was a carer for my mum.

Go for it, I don’t think anyone will worry if you fib at this stage. however this booster lasts for 70 days on average so it seems a bit pointless for you if you’re not vulnerable and have already had Covid this season??

Absolutely do so

Just to update this, I booked the booster and had it done this morning at a local pharmacy. Absolutely no questions asked. I don’t feel at all guilty though, as we have very vulnerable family members (and I’m 50 in a month’s time anyway).

That's great.

I'm under 50, 2xAZ shots, and I didn't get the (original - soon to be discontinued) booster when they launched it in late 2021, for reasons I stated on another thread. So no, I wouldn't have got a booster in the way you did but I think it's fine that you have.

You did the right thing
Think it bonkers the way we have from lots of restrictions to a 'living witb Covid" free for all.
