I think it might be your health anxiety talking. I get it really bad and I'm always convinced I'm dying. What were you like with your previous covids? I'm no expert but if it was mild you would think it wouldn't cause much damage?

I'm on my third bout of covid as well and it's been fine so far. I googled it after reading your post but I'm not worried, perhaps surprisingly. I hope you manage to avoid it, and if you do catch it I hope you're back to normal soon. 😊(Health anxiety sucks!)

You are more likely to be ok than not and worrying now will not help. Focus on how you are feeling right now, check in with yourself and then find something nice to do or think about instead.
(That’s what works for me - most of the time.)

Each bout of covid brings with it a higher risk of long covid and increased risk of cardiovascular disease. Unfortunately this is true the world over and is infuriating that little is now done to reduce spread and how little is being invested in new vaccines/treatments compared to 2020 when we’re in a viral arms race.

BUT…the increased risk depends on a lot of things and you are young and I’m guessing haven’t had severe disease before (bigger risk) and just because the risk is increased doesn’t mean it is increased massively. (If you said “the risk is doubled” that sounds scary but if the risk was 1 in 1000 and doubled to 2 in 1000 is not actually a massive increase in risk and not as scary as it sounds).

Its is bollocks that you need to have severe disease to be affected though - even people with mild disease can get post viral symptoms. Underlying conditions could increase the risk.

But the chances of you being severely ill are low and the chance of getting treated if you need it is getting higher as the disease is further understood.
You have a very different risk factor than say an 80 year old with type 1 diabetes and chronic heart disease.

Post viral conditions are common with even the common cold and with flu etc. Not many people worried about them before covid although they can be life changing. (It’s a popular misconception that you need to catch lots of viruses to build your immune system).

I have health anxiety too and I find being better informed helps more then just people saying “nah don’t worry”…lol.

I’m avoiding covid, flu and all lurgy as much as possible and still masking and meeting outside where possible but we have to accept living in society brings risks. I’m hopeful for the future.

I thought the risks doubled everytime you get it?

I only found the US veterans study as a source for those increased risks numbers? Keep in mind that the people in that study aren't representative of general population - they are mostly older men who are likely to have more underlying conditions than a woman in her 20s. You are most likely in much better health than them and much more able to fight off the infection.

If we live long enough we will all get to point of testing +covid many times in our lives, OP.

Its a very new disease and reinfections have been around for a shorter time to study.

There are lots of research projects at the moment but there isn’t much published research on reinfections yet.

Lots of juicy headlines come from the paper that studied US veterans. Who by definition were more likely male and probably older. This gives an insight into what could be determined (they found increased risk) but it doesn’t mean that increased risk applies to all demographics.
Here’s the paper..www.nature.com/articles/s41591-022-02051-3

more research is needed.

Yes reinfection likely increases risk BUT we have no idea how much increased risk there is for a 28 year old women. Even if there was a number it wouldn’t necessarily apply to you or mean you personally were at that level of risk.

IMO the best thing to do is not worry about having E.g. having liver disease afterwards BUT if you got a few symptoms of liver disease then go see a GP and rule it out. Just like you would if you hadn’t had covid but have symptoms of liver problems. Or had symptoms of anything else.

You can’t take the risk as given in the news to be applied to you, there just isn’t enough research yet anyway but it does make good headlines.

Do you have any symptoms, Chelb?

lljkk · 09/01/2023 09:02

... from Covid, I mean, rather than from your chronic illness (the health anxiety)

Chelbell2017 · 09/01/2023 09:02

@lljkk normal cold symptoms it's more my anxiety I think

Just getting over my ninth infection. I'm CEV, immunosuppressed, autoimmune condition, high BP, overweight. I'm absolutely fine and all my infections have been absolutely manageable at home. I have my bloods checked monthly due to the drugs I'm on and my liver and kidney function is always spot on. I also had an ECG recently and my heart is also fine.

I have HA too (a nightmare with all the health stuff I have going on!) and the first three or four times I tested positive I was out of my mind with worry. Now, not so much!

Hope you all feel better soon 💐

Chelbell2017 · 09/01/2023 10:39

@PrincessOfWaiIs
