bubblebab · 06/01/2023 21:10

I tested positive on January 1st (woo great start to the year)

I've never had covid before. But I now can't feel my body properly- it's like from my waist down I've gone slightly numb.

Like I'm trying to walk through water. Im wobbly and have to look what im walking on as haven't got full feeling.
Even when im sat down I can't feel my body properly
I have to exaggerate my movements just to walk/ move semi normal

Has anyone else had this?
I feel drunk
Been like this 2 days now

No that’s not normal. That needs checking out urgently.
have the symptoms been increasing or stayed the same?

bubblebab · 06/01/2023 21:47

@Flossiemoss
I've tried contacting doctors all day but they're too busy to even pick up the phone

Has been the same since it started

That’s a Call 111 issue. Don’t start by talking about covid, start by saying you have lost feeling in your body. It could be a number of things and needs investigation.

user1634987 · 07/01/2023 07:33

Could be Guillain Barre, my niece had it and did make a full recovery, I think it can be triggered by viruses, you need to seek medical attention

fajitaaaa · 07/01/2023 07:35

Call 111 and wait until they answer don't give up.

user1634987 · 07/01/2023 07:37

Oh, my niece didn't have if after covid it was quite a few years ago now, she was about 18 and had to go to hospital for a few days, not sure what triggered it with her.

I second this. Get URGENT attention as this is a very serious condition usually brought on by a virus . My daughter had it and ended up in intensive care. Fully recovered now .

Hiheyho · 07/01/2023 11:35

How are you feeling today?

Secretname123 · 07/01/2023 11:46

Does it come and go or has it stayed the whole time. I have very strange sensations (am in week 4) but they come and go. Pins and needles, numbness in various limbs and feeling like I have concrete in my legs. Would be interested to hear what they say because my doctor wasn’t that interested just said it’s post covid syndrome. Today my skin feels sticky all over- it’s like I am having strange sensations all over my body.

Catswhisky · 07/01/2023 14:08

YES! I was going to start a thread about this now it’s gone.

I knew I didn’t need to be seriously worried, knew I was ok somehow, but had just like you’re describing plus I felt like my body was about 10cm to the left of me. Sounds bizarre but it was like I had to move it next to me, and like picking feet right up like in jelly.

I started feeling ill on NYD too and this was Tues and Wed at its worse and has just about gone today.

Catswhisky · 07/01/2023 14:12

The other strange thing was how I started feeling ill. I was sitting watching tv then felt like a wave of ill go from head to feet and just said I needed to go to bed suddenly and didn’t get up for 24hrs. Never felt anything so sudden. Again I wasn’t too worried, knew I was ill but definitely not dying, very very strange feeling.

bubblebab · 07/01/2023 18:09

I called 111 hours ago. Then waited a few hours for a call back from a doctor.
And then waiting for a call back again from another person 🤷🏻‍♀️

They said it could be Guillain barre but it's more likely to be just covid stuff so they're not too worried

anx12345 · 07/01/2023 19:22

@bubblebab stil not update from that yet?

Catswhisky · 07/01/2023 19:24

Do you feel worryingly ill? As I said I knew whatever was happening was not good but felt calm still, didn’t think I needed to worry about it. It took a few days to go

bubblebab · 07/01/2023 19:25

@anx12345 - had a call to say "you will get a call" even tho I'm still waiting for the original call 😂

OP posts:
bubblebab · 07/01/2023 19:26

@Catswhisky no I'm not too worried. I only called because my partner and mil were really worried as it's the 3rd day I've felt like this. I said I'd wait for doctors but they didn't want to risk me waiting - but 111 didn't seem alarmed

It’s the most bizarre feeling

Yes this is me too. Mine started suddenly one day 6. I woke up and all my flu like symptoms:cough etc had gone. I got out of bed and half and hour later it just hit me. I have been feeling so strange. Almost out of body experiences or like I’ve been buried alive and I’m fine but I can’t move. But because mine has come and gone (for four weeks now) I keep thinking it can’t be something serious like a stroke! The doctor just told me it was “post covid syndrome”. I just hope it goes soon because it’s horrible.

bubblebab · 08/01/2023 19:08

So finally got a call back at 4pm the next DAY after I was told I'd have a call by 6pm the SAME day 🙄 (I get they're busy but when I'm supposed to be waiting 2 hours and I actually end up waiting 22 hours....)

I've been told 58% of people who get covid get a similar problem like I've got. And I will need physical therapy to try regain feeling back in my legs and feet

OP posts:
Hopefullyupwards · 08/01/2023 20:19

Sorry OP, that sounds horrible. I had no idea it was that common. Hope you recover soon and get the therapy you need.

bubblebab · 08/01/2023 20:53

@Hopefullyupwards thank you
I had no idea about it being common or serious either!

Mombie · 08/01/2023 21:09

@bubblebab not to worry you but I was ill in early October (likely covid) and noticed that I was I was dragging one of my legs and then everything gradually became weaker. I went to the Drs every week to be told long covid/sciatica/peri menopause and anxiety 🙄. It took the GP 2 months to test for post viral inflammation of the muscles (myositis) and the bloods came back positive. I have lost a lot of mobility am “willing” my legs to move and I am now on massive load of steroids to reduce the inflammation.

If you are feeling like this please ask your Dr to check out Creatine Kinase levels in your blood to rule this out and don’t be fobbed off.

Secretname123 · 09/01/2023 09:37

@bubblebab sondid they give you any advice in what to do? Or just wait and see if it gets better. 58% seems very high? I don’t think 58% of the people I know with covid have had any issues after a couple of weeks, certainly not mobility ones.

bubblebab · 09/01/2023 09:41

@Mombie jeez I'm sorry you're going through that! I'd ask my doctor to run tests if they actually bothered to listen to me! They're useless

@Secretname123 nope no advice just "you won't get worse" absolutely no help to me. I can list 18 family members off the top of my head in seconds who have had covid- not a single one has had mobility issues. So I think they're bs ing me
Just wait for it to get better and get physio asap- but the nhs wait list for it is ridiculous!!

spiderlight · 10/01/2023 14:07

I had this for most of December, with a horrible horrible cough and bone-deep exhaustion. I tested negative for Covid, concluded in the end that it was viral bronchitis and it's mostly gone now, but my whole body felt, not numb exactly, but just as if it wasn't quite mine, and like I was dragging it through treacle. At its worst, DH had to cut up my food for me because I had no strength in my hands; I keeled over twice at home on Christmas Eve, and on Christmas Day itself I could barely stand. It was really unpleasant - probably the illest I've ever felt. I didn't see a doctor because I have several chronic conditions and they always blame whatever I've got on one of them, so it seemed pointless and I honestly didn't have the energy to ring 300 times to try to get an appointment, but in retrospect I really should have!
