Brain odd after covid?

Secretname123 · 02/01/2023 10:42

I’m on day 25ish after covid and seem to be getting worse not better. Cough and cold symptoms all cleared up on about day 5 but I’ve had exhaustion, heavy limbs, shakiness etc. was coping ok “around the house” but no energy for walks, now struggling to even walk upstairs.
but my question is about my brain. I’m not sure it’s brain fog- I feel like all my thoughts whizz around in my brain all day and night and along with the tinnitus I never feel “at peace”. I watched a film last night and then couldn’t stop replaying it in my mind, but not coherently. And I did some Lego and that sent me a bit loopy too. When I sleep I have lots of nightmares and when I’m awake it feels like I am still having nightmares of sorts. Does anyone relate to this and does anything help? I’m starting to feel like I’m having some kind of breakdown.

I had it in July so I assume a different variant but definitely felt like my nerve ends were extra sensitive and I felt like I might not improve and felt quite low for quite a while. I hope you feel better soon .

I honestly think you are 'just' nutrient depleted after your bout with Covid. This means you really have to step up your vitamin/mineral intake. I found my B2 was tanked completely after Covid and I had a return of a lot of symptoms I'd previously gotten rid of by supplementing with B2. Vit B2 (riboflavin) is involved in a couple of hundred enzyme reactions as a cofactor so if it's depleted (and infection depletes it) then all those reactions suffer. Also possibly your iron levels have gone down, too. Same reason. If I were you I'd get a good quality B2, also probably Magnesium (essential for ATP production, the energy currency of our cells) as either Magnesium glycinate or malate.

Hope you feel better soon!

Thanks. I do take magnesium and the rda of b vitamins and vitamin d. I’ve found before that if I take them I’m high doses I tend to feel jittery and it triggers insomnia and panic attacks. I’ve tried some berocca today though with high levels of various b vitamins.

Yes, those are adrenaline reactions, you've taken more than your body can take. Usually you need to build up amounts slowly.

Secretname123 · 03/01/2023 10:13

Is that common then? People always roll their eyes at me when I say I feel odd after taking high doses of vitamins. Last night after the berocca I only slept for 3 hours then spent the rest of the night shaking with my skin burning and can barely function today. I feel pretty scared right now.

Hi, long covid sufferer here, I'm more than a year in and definitely making big improvements but I had the same symptoms as you for a while. Couldn't sleep for more than 40 minutes or so then would jolt awake. The thing that helped me massive was meditation. I use the headspace app, it helped almost immediately.

I would also recommend good gut health, so pre and probiotics, loads of water (I needed about 3L a day at times) and just be patient with it.

It felt really similar to concussion for me.

WooMeOut · 03/01/2023 10:32

I had this recently. I didn't test positive but had fevers, sore throat, cough.

Everything felt like a test at school. DH watched some silly cartoon about an egg on Netflix before bed and I had unsettling dreams all night about all kinds of egg related problems I had to fix.

Everything felt heavy and disturbing.

Very strange

Secretname123 · 03/01/2023 18:12

Yes it’s really odd. I’ve got a memory of feeling like this after having flu as a teenager no idea how long it lasted. I’m on the case with meditation which I’ve found so helpful for fibromyalgia. I just don’t know what to do with myself-so bored but no energy for anything. I need to stop looking at my phone! I’ve looked at it non stop for a month as not been able to settle to anything.

When I had covid I had really weird neurological symptoms like missing blocks of memory, missing language. It was awful. Felt like I had dementia. Was very weird

Cloxs · 28/08/2023 07:07

Did you improve? I’m 11 weeks out and not improving at all

Secretname123 · 28/08/2023 09:13

Hello. Sorry to hear you are unwell. It’s really awful- worst thing that’s happened to me. I have had some improvements but it’s very slow and im not better. The brain side of things that I’ve mentioned here has got a bit better though. I had quite a lot of improvement in these symptoms with over the counter histamines (Claritin) and a low histamine diet. And I’ve slowly been retraining my brain doing things in bite size amounts and building up. I can now watch tv ok! No where near going back to work though and Im still struggling with fatigue.
you have to give it time recovery is a slow process and it’s important to accept that. Feeling stressed is the worst thing for you! There’s lots I can recommend that has helped (with the caveat that im not recovered yet!)

Covid made me feel wired.

Cloxs · 28/08/2023 10:21

@Secretname123 yes please. Maybe we can chat over PM (idk how that works). It would be good if nothing else to just have reassurance that I’m not going insane. I look on the Reddit subs but they are so depressing that it’s just adding to my severe worry. I literally cannot function. I’m either so wired I cannot sit still so I have to move and then I crash with fatigue that I’ve never known. A couple times after pushing my legs have basically stopped working and feel like they are made of 50 tonne weights - no exaggeration at all I’ve never felt anything like it. I had Covid in April and recovered in 6-8 weeks, felt normal for a week and then caught it yet again and this time I’m just not getting any better. How long did it take you to see some improvement?

Secretname123 · 28/08/2023 10:41

Yes please do. I don’t know how messaging works but will work it out! I may not reply until later or tomorrow (recovery can be up and down and I don’t feel great today!). What you say sounds very familiar it’s funny how you meet others with post covid issues and their symptoms are identical yet doctors don’t know much about it. I would say try and avoid forums which can stress you out and make you feel worse. One theory is your body is basically in permanent “fight or flight mode” and needs to avoid stress. I can recommend some more positive groups out there!

@Secretname123 ive sent you a pm so hopefully it’s worked!

I had long covid for a couple of years, lots of neurological symptoms & damage to my central nervous system. What helped me most I think was high doses of quality ubiquinone (coq10) and bariatric oxygen therapy. Basically I had mitochondrial damage that needed repairing.

I tried coQ10 and it made me really anxious and jittery ☹️ I seem to react to a lot of supplements like that for some reason.
