Fully vaccinated and boosted yet feeling awful

Tested postitve on Wednesday morning, feeling dreadful. Can barely swallow with pain in throat, sore chest, dizzy, faint, earache and aching body. Fully vaccinated and boosted, no idea how I would feel if I wasn't!

Anyone else? Any advice for throat? Only cloud is that Xmas lbs are falling off! Get well soon for anyone who is the same.

Keep sucking on lozenges and get some Difflam spray. I had the worst sore throat for about 4/5 days. I was also fully vaccinated and boosted, glad I was! And drink loads and loads of water! People also say nasal spray helps? Get better soon

HappyPeaPod7 · 30/12/2022 10:14

I tested positive yesterday, and fully vaccinated. I have all the symptoms of a bad cold at the moment, worst bit being an initial headache which just didn't respond to paracetamol. Finding that ibuprofen is working the best for me. Have got a tickly throat but not sore. I'd also suggest a throat numbing spray if you have a really sore throat. It's miserable and annoying, but I wish you a swift recovery!!

itstimeforme · 30/12/2022 10:38

Thank you both so much, will send the family out for supplies! Hope you both don't have any long lasting symptoms x

6 vaccines here and still feel awful
I've been given anti virals so hoping they work soon
Cough is the worst bit for me, my ribs feel broken

itstimeforme · 30/12/2022 13:47

That sounds awful Pelo, I hope you feel better soon. Tried to get up and 'potter' just now, big mistake felt like I was going to pass out Xmas Sad

Call your GP and see if you can have one of the covid specific antiviral medications. DH and I both had covid before Christmas and we both went on molnupiravir. We felt much, much better in just 24 hours.

Biscuits1011 · 30/12/2022 13:55

Had covid twice. Mild cold, felt fine other than that and no vaccines at all here. My partner fully vaccinated was really poorly with it… i think it’s just some people will be really poorly with it, others won’t.. don’t think the vaccine has loads to do with that personally. But my opinion.. no everyone’s.

The evidence is clear that vaccination does reduce disease severity and mortality.

So if I had the vaccines, I wouldn’t have been poorly at all? Not even had the slight cold I had?

I meant to add, that yes I get that, but there’s no way of knowing if people who had the vaccines would have been worse without…

LittleDisaster · 30/12/2022 14:10

I've had it twice, the first time before we had any vaccines and the second about a month after my 3rd jab.

I was really quite unwell both times, in an I've got an awful flu kind of way, but not a I can't breathe and might die kind of way, so who knows if it might have been worse without the vaccination, but there wasn't any difference in severity for me in my experience before or after the vaccine.

For sore throat (and cough) paracetamol and old fashioned honey and lemon are best IMO

There's no way of knowing definitively what might have happened with a specific individual retrospectively. We do studies with large groups of people to determine how vaccines affect disease risk. On average, you are much safer having been vaccinated than not. So yes, you might not have been poorly at all.

I was wondering who qualifies on the NHS for anti-virals such as Paxlovid. But I expect it is only available to those in a high risk group.

Tolacar · 30/12/2022 17:44

I had two vaccines and a booster and my husband exactly the same. I got covid a year after my last booster, he had it 6 months after his last booster. I got covid way worse than he did but no reason why I don’t think? Luck of the draw maybe! 🤷🏻‍♀️

There's a list somewhere I think! I'm on Xolair and neutropenic so qualified

I came down with it on Xmas eve - I’ve been sleeping on and off since, managed to watch kids open presents and then went back to bed. Cough was bad - seems to be better now. The shivers and feeling like I had flu was the worst. No appetite at all, but drank loads of fluid for the first four days. Spent a lot of money on Xmas and not enjoyed it one bit…just waiting now to feel a bit better every day.

itstimeforme · 30/12/2022 19:51

Sorry to everyone feeling unwell, somehow feels extra unfair being unwell at Xmas. I only had my booster 6 weeks ago, didn't feel this bad when I first had it in the first wave unvaccinated. I guess the virus has changed several times since then. Dreading bedtime, the nights seem endless! Happy New Year fellow sufferers. X

I’m dreading bed time too….just sleep so badly and makes the night so long. Haven’t slept properly since 21st December!

Pelo22 · 30/12/2022 23:47

Every part of me is aching now
Started antivirals within 16hrs of a positive test, can't imagine if I had not got them that quick
The cough seems to be easing but I'm coughing up gunk and having to hold my ribs

Thismonkeysgonetodevon · 31/12/2022 00:31

A good quality Manuka honey is effective against the sore throat. And coconut water or watermelon juice for electrolytes. Lots of rest!

Although statistically vaccines will help prevent mortality and hospitalisation, it’s a nasty virus and can make you feel rotten despite your symptoms being “mild”’ie not needing medical attention.

Vaccines also don’t prevent long covid so try to rest as much as possible, and avoid re-infection as this will increase your chances of suffering with post covid complications, due to this being a virus that attacks the immune system. I agree I know a few unvaccinated that haven't been that Ill. I think their immune systems are kicking in quicker.

I have all the symptoms but aren't back at work until next Wednesday so should be ok by then? Just same symptoms as bad cold I had last year? I've slept a lot today.

Oh wow, you could be me! Also tested positive weds morning. Feel like 2 week old road kill right now. The night sweats (if I do manage 25 mins sleep) are shocking. I’m sitting here dreading going to bed. Also fully vaccinated. Had this back in 2020 and it was nothing like this.

itstimeforme · 02/01/2023 12:38

@Banjarine if it's any consolation my sore throat has faded and my only real symptom is feeling weak and for some bizarre reason, tearful 😢. I'm definitely getting better. Wishing you well x

I hope everyone will start to feel better /get well soon (especially @Pelo22 - I hope the antivirals have started to help). My DP has now tested positive and didn't have the most recent vaccine😫 I think my symptoms are getting marginally better each day but I can definitely tell once the ibuprofen starts to wear off! I really thought having been fully vaccinated I might be immune - but it obviously doesn't work that way 😥!😷
