Surely not again - reinfection after two weeks?

DD and I had covid at the beginning of December. She was testing negative by the 7th, me a few days before. A close colleague of hers was sent home from work after testing positive last Monday and sure enough, on Christmas Eve DD started feeling ropey. Today she feels wretched so tested and it's positive. I tested to be on the safe side (I'm CEV) and I'm positive, too. No symptoms whatsoever.

How can she have caught it less than two weeks after her previous infection? How can I have it so soon? We've both tested negative after our previous bout so it's unlikely it's a hangover positive, surely?

We also had it at the end of September/, beginning of October. This will be my eighth or ninth time with it, if I have it (I've genuinely lost count).

Googling suggests it's highly unlikely but if that's the case what's going on? Are the tests wonky?

Thoroughly and completely pissed off now. And waiting for symptoms to hit, and start the process for antivirals. Again.

Anyone else caught it so soon? Is it even possible?!

And this morning I have symptoms, too.

I am utterly completely sick of this. I haven't been able to take my RA medication for almost three months (I always test positive for three weeks and I've had D&V and strep throat in between covid bouts). I went to the GP last week and was told I was in hypertensive crisis when I've never had high blood pressure before and am now on medication for it. I am absolutely run into the ground and it seems as if I'm going to get covid every few weeks.

Genuinely at the end of my tether.

Oh, how frustrating for you. I had this in summer 2021. They reckoned it just hadn't really gone away.

I hope you get better soon

Thank you @Piggywaspushed 💐

I do think this must surely be the same infection come back to kick our arses - I've not seen anything, anywhere about people being reinfected after a fortnight.

DD has had four jabs and I've had six, most recently at the end of October. Along with all the times we've had it (this will be her fourth, all since March) you'd think we'd be able to just shrug it off but evidently not.

Oh no OP that’s shit, hope you’re feeling better soon. I wonder if it’s two different variants you’ve had? There’s people at my work who seem to have had it or symptoms at least every few weeks since summer, it’s really getting them down so I can understand why you’re so frustrated with it.

I had this last December. 2.5 weeks between infections. I assumed one was delta and one was Omicron.

I have read things about people taking antivirals testing negative but then positive again after finishing the course. Could this be what is happening?

Paxlovid rebound

Sadly it happens. Dd had it twice in about 4-5 weeks late 2021/early 2022, about the time omicron became known so I assume she had two variants. She was barely ill each time and I was only testing her due to being a very close contact both times. Thankfully she has not had it since that we know of!
