Just tested positive - not a surprise as my kids have had it this past week.
I have a dentist app later today - I’m in a lot of pain and need a filling. I really don’t want to cancel it as the thought of carrying on with this pain over Christmas is horrible.
Of course I don’t want to pass on my germs… but I’m thinking dentists must be exposed to covid all the time? Most people aren’t testing these days. The only reason I have tests in the house is because of elderly relatives coming for Christmas… (or not coming now due to this blooming virus).
Aaaaargh. What would you do?

Why did you test? Do you have symptoms?

bizzywiththefizzy · 21/12/2022 07:10

You can't vulnerable people go to the dentist too and your Dentist will be none too happy with you .

Afl · 21/12/2022 07:14

Do you want to potentially ruin someone elses chances of seeing their relatives this Christmas by passing it onto them?
If you knowingly have covid stay away until youre negative.

Take pain killers and don't go. It's not fair to the dentist or other patients for you to go in. Surely the dentist has a policy about coming in with symptoms, positive or not? All the medical centres around me do. If in doubt, ask the receptionist if you can come in with Covid.

Yes, I agree. But I’m in flipping agony. What a nightmare.
I have mild symptoms which is why I tested. And my elderly mum is due to visit - so that’s cancelled too.

Phone the dentist and tell them the situation. Ask what they advice you do as you do need to be seen.

Nimbostratus100 · 21/12/2022 07:18

I am really sorry you are in this position - the only think you can do is tell the dentist and beg them to still see you. Imagine if you passed it on to someone who dies or is left disabled.... you would never forgive yourself

Are you waiting for a root canal? I know that can be the worst pain. I'd let the dentist know. They might need to give you antibiotics if you can't have your procedure.

tiggergoesbounce · 21/12/2022 07:19

I think it's very selfish to go if you have a virus. I wouldn't go with any virus.

bizzywiththefizzy · 21/12/2022 07:20

Couldn't you contact the Dentist and explain , I'm sure they will give suitable pain killers . Might have to knock alcohol on the head though .

Towcat15 · 21/12/2022 07:23

If you have symptoms I wouldn’t go, as pp said speak to them and see what suitable pain relief can be given in the meantime and rebook

SallyWD · 21/12/2022 07:24

Call the dentist for advice.

A filling fell out and half my tooth broke away. It hurts.
I’ll call them and see what they advise - but painkillers don’t help much with dental pain in my experience.
