So I have covid for the second time.

My DS had covid in December 2020 - PCR confirmed and he was ill with fever, headache, body rash, but I didn't get it from him then (at least I never knew if I did).

I had two vaccines in 2021, and then had covid with mild symptoms (LFT positive) over New Year 2021-2022, so almost a year ago.

My daughter was coughing over a week ago, so I gave her a test and it was positive. She is mostly better now. I tested on Wednesday just to be sure as I didn't want to spread it to anyone before Christmas, and test was positive.

I have no symptoms. Have not tested again since, but stayed at home.

I found out yesterday my best friend has died, aged only 54 😢😢. I couldn't get hold of her for a couple of weeks, thought she was just taking some time off social media etc, but found a tribute last night when I googled her name, and her details on a funeral directors website for upcoming funerals. I don't even know yet what she died of, I am trying to contact her family.

Last time I had covid, even though symptoms were mild, I tested positive on LFT until day 11 I think.

I am really hoping I can go to funeral, but I do not want to spread covid to her family. How long did everyone test positive with no symptoms?? If you test negative on LFT, does that mean definitely no longer infectious??

I was negative after 6 days of testing.

Oh I'm so sorry. What a ghastly thing to happen.

If you're not clear to go, maybe ask if the funeral will be streamed online?

Funeral directors got good at this during lockdown, and there are always people who can't attend because of distance, sickness or infirmity so the practice has often been continued.

I was negative after 5 days. Sorry to hear Flowers

I tested positive on Wednesday, bad symptoms have been very sick, starting to recover. I tested negative today. Out for isolation on Tuesday. In Ireland here. 7 day isolation period or 48hr post negative test I was advised by HCP.

Also negative on LFT means virus was not detected, does not mean it is not there.

It took me 13 days to get a negative. Only had a scratchy throat and slight congestion for 2-3 days.

JamNittyGritty · 19/12/2022 06:12

You don’t need to wait for a negative, guidance is currently to isolate for 5 days - if you can. Today is day 5. You don’t say when the funeral is but anytime from tomorrow and you are ok to go. If it were me I would wear a mask if it’s in the next couple of days.

RedHelenB · 19/12/2022 07:08

This and don't get too near anybody.

ThaiDye · 19/12/2022 08:09

Just because the government guidance is 5 days doesn't mean that you aren't infectious. I would keep wearing an N95 till at least day 10 but the safest option is not to go if you are still testing positive.

Quisquam · 19/12/2022 08:21

DH tested positive for 2.5 weeks. One hospital told us couldn’t go there for 14 days; another believes if you are testing positive, you are still infectious until 2 negative LFTs. We can’t go to DD’s care home either for 14 days.

Government guidance is what is politically and economically expedient; not what is in the the best interests of individuals (especially the vulnerable).

I am sorry to hear about your friend OP.

My son's GF tested positive with no symptoms a couple of weeks back. Her work rules (NHS) were to test again after 5 days and she could return after two negative tests . She was negative on day 5.

I would think if it's been a week, pop a mask on and sit away from people. As long as you aren't actively coughing over people - which half the country seems to be doing at the moment with non-Covid bugs.
