Testing positive over ten days.

I am day ten now, I tested negative on one brand of test this morning, but I did a second one just now, a Flowflex, and I am still getting a faint positive on that. Does that mean I can still infect people ? I have been isolating for the whole period and keeping away from my dd, so I am keen to see her again !

Might be a bit late replying now but I tested positive for 15 days when I had covid in October. Thought it would never end! But as I had a medical appointment when I was day 10, I asked GP if ok to attend by his reckoning, no longer infectious after 7 days. I am not sure if that is a reliable fact but given a lot of folk not even isolating anymore I think it's fair to go with that.

It took me 12 days to test negative. Just test every 2 days.

@SirVixofVixHall what is that about not drinking coffee before testing ? I haven't heard that .

I wonder if the different tests are as accurate as each other . Previously I got the flow flex tests from the pharmacy - same as the free ones from NHS. I'm getting some cheaper ones from Amazon now and I wondered if they were less accurate . I've started asymptomatic testing before visiting my mum again.

When I had Covid in the summer I was still testing positive after 18 days (flow flex) after which I gave up testing as we were never asked to isolate after 14 days.

Re Coffee, you aren’t supposed to eat or drink anything for half an hour (I think ? Might be longer) before testing as it can skew the result.

Glad you are finally negative.

I had COVID in April and went by the government guidance of avoid anyone CEV for 10 days. I went out on day 10. Couldn’t return to work until 2 negatives which I got on day 12 and 13.

I’m a nurse and our patients can de-isolate after 10 days regardless of LFD result. Not sure why the guidance remains different for staff!

COVID seems to be everywhere. We have just come through an outbreak at work (mental health hospital) and are now finding that most of our admissions from general wards are from wards with COVID😬😷 We are trying so hard to remain open to visitors for Christmas, this feels worse than previous years!

Ah - yes I do remember that as an instruction in the test which required swabbing the back of the throat. I wouldn't have thought it would affect the tests which are only the nose swab though.

Maybe it doesn’t, I might be going by outdated advice.

We've got the newer NHS nasal ones and it still says don't eat or drink for a minimum of 30 mins before testing.

shinynewapple22 · 21/12/2022 09:05

Interesting - maybe that's why I continued to test positive for so long then!!
