OH and DS have Covid. DS is coming out the other side of, OH has been rough. I've already had Covid twice but for the last few days I've had a sore throat, upset stomach and just felt off. I work with vulnerable adults and obviously can't go to work if I have Covid.

For the second time I've tested and I swear I can see a faint line, I can't send it to my boss as I know he'll say it's negative but there definitely is a faint line there. I'm now in a quandary because I don't want to infect anyone who is vulnerable but unless there's a stonking line I can't do much about it.

Pic added for opinions DS test is on the left and there's a barely there line mine is on the right.

I’d say that’s a line. When do you need to go to work? I bet it will be a very clear + in 24 hrs, maybe 12.

Siuuuu · 06/12/2022 19:36

I'm at work in the morning and have to test every day now until my household is clear. If it is darker tomorrow morning before I leave it'll be accepted I hope. I feel crap but nothing major so far. My throat has been sore all weekend and today I started feeling queasy with an upset stomach at times.

Just tested DS 2 and he's got a faint line that's more prominent than mine and more pinker.

Hope you all feel better soon x

Pleasegivemeyourwisdom · 06/12/2022 20:13

Yes a line x

Siuuuu · 06/12/2022 20:21

😩 I really didn't want to catch it again. Unless the line gets darker though I'll have to go to work. I did a throat only test this morning which was negative, the one I've done tonight is nose only.

Have you used the government report a covid test online form?

It now reads the test from a photo and says it can detect a faint positive line that could be easily missed. If it says you're positive surely your boss will accept that?

Yes i do use that but the tests I have the qr code is too long and it won't read them! On the nhs LFTs I'm negative at the minute but the gov website will work for those!

Send your boss a photo of your son's test, if his line is stronger. It's not like you're being dishonest and trying to wing a day off to go Christmas shopping. Definitely sounds like you're ill.

As an aside, could you not call in sick anyway, even if it's "just" a sore throat and upset stomach?

Mamansparkles · 06/12/2022 22:03

Agree with above, you know you shouldnt go in to spread it to vulnerable adults and you clearly have it. Send a pic of whoever's test is darkest and say it's yours if your manager has no morals and wants you to work whilst ill unless you have a line.
But surely for an upset stomach caused by another bug it would be 48 hours clear anyway, so you can't go to work.

Siuuuu · 07/12/2022 07:37

I've retested this morning and it's the same as last night. The app has read it as negative 🤷‍♀️

Agree with others. If you can't be off sick with 'just' a virus then send a photo of you son's positive test. There are some really awful viruses doing the rounds at the moment - every bit as bad as Covid. It would be irresponsible to inflict whatever it is you have on others. Perhaps more so if it whatever you have isn't Covid as people haven't been vaccinated against the non-Covid viruses.

Siuuuu · 07/12/2022 08:07

I'm wary to send my DS pic in as I'm worried that I end up actually getting it full blown.
I'm going to take my actual test in to show management before I start my shift.

Are you really only allowed to be off sick if you have Covid op? Regardless of how ill you might feel - and how infectious you might be - with something else?

Siuuuu · 07/12/2022 08:19

No we can be off if we are ill but I've had time off for other things this year and every time I've been off I've been made to feel bad because of it - even though I've been genuinely ill. Management aren't particularly sympathetic either or supportive.

Awkward one OP. The right thing to do would be to call in sick . You don't feel well and whatever it is you might pass it on to the vulnerable people you work with. However I can understand your reluctance if your manager is difficult with you and also if you don't get full pay .

maddy68 · 07/12/2022 09:21

That's a faint positive. Just send your son's if they require proof

shinynewapple22 · 07/12/2022 09:24

My son (adult) had a flu-type virus last week and he was really poorly, in bed all week. Far worse than any of us experienced Covid to be - so it's true, Covid isn't the only thing that can be a dangerous illness for the vulnerable.

Siuuuu · 07/12/2022 10:49

I don't feel too bad today just a sore throat, I did another test which was throat only and it was completely negative.
