Covid and terrified

I am going to die. Managed to not get it until now. Suffer from health anxiety generally. My chest feels like it’s burning. Otherwise healthy - how do I know when to worry?!

Call 111

Leemoe · 27/11/2022 21:19

No, you are not going to die.
Please calm down. You will likely feel ill for a few days, it is likely to be omicron and you will 99.999999999% certainty be absolutely fine.

Abraxan · 27/11/2022 21:22

You are extremely unlikely to become very ill, let alone die from covid when you are a normally healthy adult.

I'm classed as vulnerable and have had covid twice. I'm still here.

It's your anxiety talking.

Have you a blood oxygen device? That may help make you feel more reassured.

LittIe · 27/11/2022 21:22

What makes you think you’re going to die?

Mememeddow · 27/11/2022 21:54

I just have a really bad feeling. I can’t tell if it’s just anxiety talking. And my chest hurts. Oxygen levels 98 and pulse 122 my pulse/ oxygen thingy.

It is the anxiety talking. You are very unlikely to become seriously ill.

LIZS · 27/11/2022 21:58

My oxygen levels are never 98, yours is fine. Anxiety will raise your pulse. Try looking up some breathing exercises and relaxation techniques. Treat symptoms as you would a cold.

Ontheedge2 · 27/11/2022 21:59

Calm down, deep breaths.

Do you have paracetamol in?

Covid is mild for the majority of people. Do you have any underlying conditions?

Ontheedge2 · 27/11/2022 21:59

Also, your oxygen levels are great!

user1477249785 · 27/11/2022 22:00

OP are you vaccinated? If so, the chances are very high that you are going to be totally fine

IceReckon · 27/11/2022 22:00

Most people have had it multiple times now, and the VAST majority are fine.
If you're one of the few that does get very unwell they are now able to treat it fairly effectively, deaths from it are now very low unless you'd also be at risk of other cold viruses.

userxx · 27/11/2022 22:02

You'll be fine, have a couple of ibuprofen and get yourself in bed.

SilverSalver · 27/11/2022 22:02

I am extremely vulnerable due to immunosuppressed and I did not die. I was very ill first time but 2nd time after 5 vaccines it was just a bad cold,

Just accept that you will feel unwell for a few days. Don't go to work, drink plenty and rest. Your Sats are fine and even if they weren't you would not die of covid unless you were already pretty ill with something else.

Mememeddow · 27/11/2022 22:04

I have atrial fibrillation- a heart rhythm thingy - but I don’t think that’s a condition that means I’m more likely to get really unwell. I just need to stop looking at my pulse. Watching the numbers definitely makes it go higher!

OP posts:
IntentionalError · 27/11/2022 22:05

Assuming you are fully vaccinated, and otherwise in reasonably good health, you will be fine. Take paracetamol, rest & chill out.

Ellie1015 · 27/11/2022 22:07

Worst was shivery then hot feeling for about 24 hours. Then really tired for a few days. Regular paracetamol for temperature and take it easy.

You will be fine, try whatever coping strategies you have for anxiety as I suspect that is what is your bigger issue right now.

GG1986 · 27/11/2022 22:16

My pulse was high when I had covid, but that was probably the fever causing that along with anxiety that i had covid, drinks lots of water and take regular paracetamol. Hot water with fresh lemon and honey is good too. Take some deep breaths and chill out. If you start to feel really poorly then call 111 for advice x

SilverSalver · 28/11/2022 12:48

I posted above but to add, I have AF as well as asthma, auto immune disease and another lung condition. Some of the drugs I take make the vaccine less effective.
I think when you have an arrythmia you are hyper sensitive to changes in your heart. I have learned not to worry about them TBH as that makes it worse. Covid did increase palpitations but not to any dangerous level.

NotToBeShaked · 28/11/2022 12:51

How are you feeling today OP?

Abraxan · 28/11/2022 19:00

Your oxygen stats are good.

Your pulse is up a little but a raised heart rate is totally normal with any time of infection or virus.

Mememeddow · 28/11/2022 19:04

NotToBeShaked · 28/11/2022 12:51

How are you feeling today OP?

Chest still hurts particularly if I do anything like go upstairs. Pulse has come down though so I’ve stopped freaking out as much as I was. Thank you for asking

OP posts:
user374698 · 28/11/2022 20:08

Pulse will go up if you have a temperature anyway, so don't be alarmed about it

user374698 · 28/11/2022 20:11

if you are wearing a smart watch take it off because it will make you feel more anxious if you can constantly see your higher pulse rate, I left mine off for a few days as I found I was drawn to it

pecanpie24 · 28/11/2022 20:14

Hi OP, Covid is just a cold for the healthy. Please don't worry too much

Magic1231 · 07/12/2022 17:12

I'm glad you're not freaking out as much, inward exactly the same when I had it in july, it's horrible. I have heard covid effects mental health a lot. I'm currently coming down with a sore throat again... so it's like oh god, is this gonna be round 2. Hope you feel better soon xxx
