Booster and long covid

I've been offered a booster, which is a bit of a nice surprise. I have long covid - has anyone with long covid had the booster and if so, how did you react to it? Did it cause a setback for you? Does anyone know how long it protects for? Thanks.

Hi, I'm due my 5th booster next week. I had to postpone it as I got covid 🙄 I'll be 4 weeks post positive test on Saturday and I'm still having some symptoms so I'm thinking I might have or certainly be at risk of long covid. I don't know much about it. I wouldn't have thought the booster would set you back but will offer you much needed protection from reinfection. I am CEV and would have been hospitalised at the least without my vaccines as I was still quite poorly. I'll definitely be having mine even if I feel a bit off for a couple of days.

It's not a vaccine thing - I had all the vaccines I've been offered to date, but last one was just under a year ago. I've struggled with after effects of covid (actual infection wasn't pleasant, but perfectly manageable at home). I've got kids at school, so stand no chance of avoiding it - that's depressing to write - I'm at the mercy of 'it's just a cold and ignore future consequences lobby' as are my kids. I have booked it for next weekend. Hope you feel better soon and your vaccine goes well.

Hi, I currently have Long Covid. I had a reinfection in September so I think that gives me some immunity - I’ve booked it but don’t know if I will have it! I worry a bit like your!

TurquoiseBeach · 04/11/2022 14:00

Sorry to hear that. How did your reinfections affect your LC if you don't mind me asking.

Hello. Yes I have had LC for two and a half years. I had my Covid booster (Pfizer Bivalent) on 24 Oct.

I have had a relapse of LC symptoms since I'm sad to say. So... fatigue, brain fog, heaviness behind the eyes and in my legs plus headache. And v low mood. It's a blow as I had been feeling quite well and thought I was well on the way to recovery. I'm hoping it resolves and I get back to baseline but, in my experience, this could take weeks or even months,

TurquoiseBeach · 05/11/2022 13:34

That's hard. Hoping you start to recover again soon.

Well I had my booster today at 9.40am and by 5pm had a sore arm and headache. By 6 I was feeling sick. By 7 I had dreadful aches in my back, feet, legs, knees and hips. I'm already in bed. It's 5 weeks since I first started with covid and I hadn't fully got rid of the symptoms but nothing like this. I feel quite unwell. I'm hoping a good sleep and all the ibuprofen gel and hot water bottles along with my usual heavy duty painkillers will have me at least able to function for the school run tomorrow. My last booster I was fine and I hoped I would be this time too. I'm seeing the GP this week to see if he thinks I have long covid.

I had my booster a couple of days ago and it did make me feel rubbish. However just this evening I'm feeling better than I have for months. I feel like a weight has lifted off me.

There have been lots of reports of people with long covid improving after the booster. I'm wondering if I've actually been down since I had covid.infection in summer and the 4th dose vaccine has helped it clear.

BonnesVacances · 07/11/2022 23:32

DH has had LC for 8 months and had the Covid booster a few weeks ago. He was fine. Felt awful for a day, but so did I.

TurquoiseBeach · 14/11/2022 14:13

Had booster on Saturday. No side effects, other than feeling extra tired yesterday.

That's great @TurquoiseBeach. Even if it doesn't help your long covid, it will give you some protection against reinfection.
