Does anyone else have any of these symptoms a few months after covid?

Just wondering if I can share my woe with anyone, is anyone else suffering with horrible neuropathy, it's not quite pain but more like strange cold/hot burning feelings mainly in my legs arms and face, it's a really strange sensation and started during a bout of bad covid I had in the summer, so 4 months in with these symptoms.

Also some digestive issues, reflux and stomach pain not sure if related but same time of onset as all the other symptoms. Also the icing on the cake the last few weeks is crushing fatigue.

I also have intermittent smell and taste loss and phantom smells/taste. Is anyone else being seen or under any care for long covid, what can I do for the above symptoms, in a full on job and it's really affecting me. Is everyone else just riding it out or any meds that can help my symptoms and or recovery.

Thank you.

That sounds tough. There is a long covid thread on here you can search for. Some of your symptoms may have been raised there. There is also a long haulers group on Twitter if you are on that. Good luck.

I'd say (educated guess) is that having Covid has tanked your B12 and other vitamins. B12 deficiency has peripheral neuropathy as a symptom - tingling, numbness, burning. You need B2 to utilise B12 properly. Perhaps buy a sublingual B12 and a good B2 or multi B complex to supplement with daily.

I did have digestive issues afterwards (I had them before but I have hypothyroidim which affects digestion, however I had fixed my reflux by taking small doses of Iodine, Selenium and Molybdenum). So I had to just keep at those supplements and slowly things have righted themselves.

Fatigue can be due to any number of things, could be an iron deficiency.

I think what most fail to mention after having Covid (or any infection) is that your immune system has used up a lot of resources in order to defeat the virus, so if any of those nutrients weren't optimal in the first place, you can be left deficient. Then you get those odd symptoms and don't make a full recovery. So boosting your diet and taking some supplements is probably a good idea!

Thanks both for your help, I really appreciate it.

@TurquoiseBeach Thank you I've been having a look.

@CrunchyCarrot Yeah I read similar information this week so I've been looking at supplements and eating very healthily to give my body some fighting resources back! I'll look into what you mentioned, thank you. I've been taking a B vitamin mix this week.

I take iron for anaemia already and levels were okay last time but due a check up , maybe that was a bit depleted through the infection too. It was a rough ride so I'm and I also read that the immune system is clearing out covid damage for a few months in some people; not sure I'm explaining that right but that seemed to be the jist of what I read. I have caught every cold going since having it so I think my immune system must be distracted!

Thanks, I will report back with improvements or info. :)

Oops sorry bit of a typo in there, not sure where I was going with the rough ride sentence, hope all makes sense!

@RobLakessecondwife Yes, it makes sense! Good luck, I do think nutrition is the best way to go. :)

I have had digestive issues since covid as well as some pains etc. i was exhausted afterwards, but ok now in that regard. I’ve had quite a few tests as my stool was showing inflammation but the latest test is back to v normal levels.
bloods all ok, etc.
also have reflux - it’s horrible! I haven’t felt ‘right’ since early July so I really sympathise.
Am taking probiotics and following a v healthy diet to see if it helps. Also on PPIs.

RobLakessecondwife · 06/11/2022 22:40

Well I don’t know if it’s a placebo or what but no neuropathy the last few days after starting on b12 and multi b for a week, anyone know if it would be too soon for an effect?

@JustDanceAddict Sounds rubbish, I’m sorry. Reflux is crap isn’t it. I might try probiotics, do you feel they have helped? Today I picked up some zinc as well.

JustDanceAddict · 07/11/2022 08:15

@RobLakessecondwife - I only started them a week ago so too early to tell. The gastro said take for 3 weeks at least (I bought a box of 30 sachets so will see how I go).
it’s really miserable, I just want to feel normal again.

Starrr123 · 16/04/2023 11:13

@RobLakessecondwife how are you? Ive had the same! Did anything ease ?

Grimbelina · 16/04/2023 11:18

strange cold/hot burning feelings mainly in my legs arms and face

I had this after my vaccinations and then again (but more mildly) after Covid (along with a whole bunch of other symptoms). Since diagnosed with ME/CFS and being investigated for autoimmune illness that may have caused neurological issues. However, after two years I am about 90 per cent better. In your case I would be considering Long Covid and trying to get a referral. In the short term I would be also looking at pacing (as used in ME/CFS) as I beleive this has been an important part of me getting better (amongst a lot of other things I did which may/may not have helped).

Crikeyalmighty · 25/04/2023 16:21

@RobLakessecondwife I have this a lot- all in face- mainly foreahead and nose, neuro says it's likely to be virus induced small fibre neuropathy- I agree it's totally horrible. Gabapentin is the main thing they use but gas side affects , so I'm deciding still if it's bearable as some days it's worse than others

Starrr123 · 08/05/2023 09:28

@RobLakessecondwife how are you now ? Ive got the burning skin. And i go burning hot and red rashy :( x

DisquietintheRanks · 08/05/2023 15:25

Just seen this. I had burning skin for 2 years after covid. What ultimately helped (other than time) were vitamin b12 and "adrenal support" supplements. Now 3 years on I am 95% better.

Starrr123 · 08/05/2023 16:05

@DisquietintheRanks did the burning last constantly? X

DisquietintheRanks · 08/05/2023 17:36

@Starrr123 no. It would come on, last a few hours then fade. Then later the same day, or the next day, rinse and repeat. For me it was a sensation of heat/burning. Unpleasant but not painful. It affected the skin on my arms, shoulders, neck and breast. Also my lips, tongue, inside of my mouth and lungs. I still get it a bit now (my tongue is burning as I type) but much less frequently and much milder. For a good 2 years it was several hours each and every day.

Starrr123 · 08/05/2023 17:43

@DisquietintheRanks mine is exactly the same!! This time! Its burning hot feeling! Im abroad on Saturday with my little girls holiday and i am so nervous because im scared being in the sun.
i bave started my b12 tablets today, my tongue and lips were doing the same. But thats has eased and its my arms neck face and shoulders x

Crikeyalmighty · 08/05/2023 18:28

@DisquietintheRanks @Starrr123 I get it purely on my forehead, nose and cheekbones- all post covid- along with sore eyes- for days at a time- really really uncomfortable feeling- like chronic sunburn

Starrr123 · 08/05/2023 18:39

@Crikeyalmighty how long has it gone on for , for u? Xx

Crikeyalmighty · 08/05/2023 18:49

7 months now- feels a very long 7 months- I've got lots of post vaccination neuro issues but the facial burning is one of the worst- it comes and goes- some days hardly there, other days- all day!! And I get sore eyes at same time .

Starchipenterprise · 08/05/2023 19:44

I had pains in my lower legs for 8 weeks after covid in Oct 2021, then a leg injury from inactivity, which stopped me exercising for a further 3 months.
