Covid etiquette (England)

I tested positive for Covid this morning due to symptoms. Should I report my test to NHS? If yes, should I make sure to report negative tests later on? How long should I stay in? I had all boosters and at home anyway so no issues there but I have meetings on 4th and 8th, not compulsory so can skip them. I just wonder what the expectations are atm.

No reporting needed anymore. Just stay at home until you feel better.

I’ve not reported but can’t go to work anyway as I’m stuck in bed feeling rotten! Boss’ advice was just come back when I feel better.

I'm just getting over my first bout of it so I had to look up the curent NHS guidance, which recommends isolating for 5 days, if you still have symptoms at that point then you might continue isolating, and depending on your job you may need two nedgative tests 24 hs apart before returning to a patient facing role.

dudsville · 01/11/2022 12:27

Sorry, I've also not reported my tests to the NHS.

Arenanewbie · 01/11/2022 12:46

Thank you everyone. I don’t need tests jobwise as I’m at home anyway, i wonder if it’s worth to have a record on my notes but it is unclear if it’s possible to report at all. My test are from NHS (spring leftovers)

I didn’t even know you could report still. I would still go for walks if I felt up to it, but wouldn’t go to office/public transport/shops

TheBirdintheCave · 01/11/2022 12:51

I caught it for the first time last week. It passed quickly for my husband and he is now testing negative so has gone back to work. My toddler and I are still positive so are staying in the house. I don't want to accidentally get someone sick.

We reported our positive tests to the NHS yes.

Re your compulsory meetings, I think it would be a good idea to tell people you had Covid beforehand so they can choose not to be there if they don't want to be at risk of catching it.

TheBirdintheCave · 01/11/2022 12:51

Oh sorry just read that they're NOT compulsory. No issues there then :)

Ellie1015 · 01/11/2022 12:59

I think the rules are stay home while unwell and no need to test. But as you have a positive test you should isolate for 5 days (3 if under 18).

Arenanewbie · 01/11/2022 13:34

It will be my 6th day on Friday, I will do a test again but highly probably will skip it, my absence won’t change anything. I don’t want to put people at risk, feel bad enough for being out yesterday. I thought it’s my usual autumn cold but then at the evening tea tasted weird so I decided to test just in case. Otherwise it was absolutely normal sneezing, runny nose and a bit of scratchy throat I’ve got regularly, no temperature.

It is possible to still report. I work for the NHS and still report my negative ones. I’d report so it’s on record in case you go on to have long covid symptoms. Personally I’d follow the old guidance of not going out until you have 2 negative tests, but that’s because I work in public health and the old guidance is much better public health policy than the current (non) guidance!

Arenanewbie · 01/11/2022 15:41

@BedtimeBiscuits I’ve reported it. Hope I won’t need it but I’ve got account anyway so it’s quick.

You can also report on the Zoe App which is tracking infections and gives a sense of current infection levels in the country.

I would personally do like @BedtimeBiscuits and isolate until at least one negative test, if you have to go out when still positive then please wear a mask (not cloth, not surgical, but N95). You can be infectious for 10+ days.

When I had covid, I didn’t report my results. I stayed at home but I went for a walk in the evening (I wasn’t really sick - just full of cold). I worked from home until I tested negative.
