Negative LFT but so unwell

DH has covid, he's testing a strong positive at 7 days.

His symptoms were typical, but he has ulcers on his tongue and roof of his mouth.

I've woke up today with a banging headache, sore throat, ulcers around my tongue. A negative test.

I've had to go to work, as my line manager said aslong as im not completely poorly I should come in. (I'm a student, it's a placement) so im sat shivering, paranoid that im infecting people with covid.

Is it likely im actually positive but it isn't showing yet?

Mine took 12-24 hours to show positive after symptoms had started so yes I’d say it’s possible

andwhy · 13/10/2022 10:01

But you are poorly, covid or not, so go home. Sounds like you definitely need to rest.

wtfisgoingonhere21 · 13/10/2022 10:02

Op I felt rough with bad symptoms three days before I tested positive.

Same as dh.

No way could I have gone to work like it

Water246 · 13/10/2022 10:05

If you're shivering you probably have a fever and you should go home regardless of a positive / negative test. You are not well with a virus - whatever it is!

ecnatsid · 13/10/2022 10:35

It's the ulcers growing my tongue that's made me really suspicious, I'm in a nursing non patient facing placement, line manager is not very nice. Refusing to sign my documents if I didn't turn up, finally got hold of uni and following their advice to go home.

Starting with aches now

The awkward tears that are being difficult and there seems to be a lot of bosses etc being mentioned here the last few days that are have either never had it or had it very mildly.

ecnatsid · 13/10/2022 11:01

I've never had it, never took time off for it either. I hoped I'd avoided it

@wtfisgoingonhere21 I'm not sure I understand, sorry

Test again?

wtfisgoingonhere21 · 13/10/2022 11:04

@ecnatsid
I'm so sorry I currently have covid so hand to eye co ordination is terrible 🤦‍♀️

What I meant is there seems to be a lot of managers or bosses being very awkward about poorly staff even with symptoms on Mumsnet the last few days.

It took days for my test to come positive even though I was really tough with symptoms.

The bosses and managers being snippy about it either haven't had covid yet or if they have it's been mild because they've obviously forgotten

It's horrible op. Go home and rest up

Lemonlady22 · 13/10/2022 11:10

Is your placement in a setting where you are mixing with vulnerable people, hospital, old peoples care, nursery etc? If so your boss should be ashamed of himself for potentially infecting people!

Pixiedust1234 · 13/10/2022 11:13

There's a strain of covid that doesn't show positive on a test until day 4 or 5 of symptoms. However if you were shivering and feeling ill you shouldn't be in work anyway Confused

VampiresWife · 13/10/2022 12:21

The last three times I've had it, it took around a week from the start of symptoms to test positive. I've come to the very scientific conclusion that this is how this strain behaves!

Hope you feel better soon OP.

ecnatsid · 13/10/2022 12:55

@Lemonlady22 no, thankfully non-patient facing but I got advice from uni and left and went home

Negative lft again, will stop testing and stay at home

I was negative until my 3rd day feeling unwell. The LFTs are not that reliable.

mrsawhite · 13/10/2022 14:34

I've been searching for a post like this. Could've written this myself. DH tested positive Monday. I still haven't but feeling awful since Tuesday. Now have an awful chesty cough. Given up testing now!

Hellospring22 · 13/10/2022 14:38

It took me a few days from the start of symptoms to testing positive. I kept testing as my youngest was positive. LFTs miss a lot of positives that’s why we had PCR tests. I think they only pick up about 70 percent of cases. They aren’t as sensitive either so it can take a few days for them to pick up cases. I hope you feel better soon.

ecnatsid · 14/10/2022 12:31

I tested positive this morning

been and done it. · 14/10/2022 13:23

It took my neighbour 4 days to get a positive test despite symptoms. My husband had symptoms of a cough 4 days prior to his positive test. I tested positive a day before him - my only symptom being violently sick initially.
