Covid and Asthma experiences?

Ds18 has just gone to uni and has come down with Covid. He was hospitalised for a few days with it last year and had it again in Spring but only felt ill for a couple of days and it didn't go to his chest.

This time around he's on day 4 and breathless and a bit worse. His o2 is fine and he has no temp. But given last year's experience I'm stressing a lot. So I was wondering about people's experiences with how long the illness was, how it was with asthma for this recent variant. Or just tell me it'll be okay and not like before!

I have asthma and another lung condition. I was very ill with covid last year and spent over a week in hospital. I don't think the asthma was the problem though as I am immunosuppressed.
Got covid again recently and had the symtoms of a nasty cold but nothing remotely like the last time.

Thanks for the reply, hope you never have it so bad again! It's most likely just symptoms like a bad cold and I'm overreacting due to past experience.

I tested positive last Saturday and started steroids just before the test as my asthma had got worse. I'd been feeling off for a few days but only started with a bit of a cough on Friday. I'm on steroids and antibiotics for my chest as I know how it goes and always have a rescue pack available. I was so ill last year with non-covid and I wasn't taking any chances on my chest getting that bad again. This is the first time I've tested positive and feel rough. My chest feels worse rather than better but it wheats takes me a while to get better.
My advice (former asthma nurse) is to tell your son to make sure he is taking his preventer correctly via a spacer if he has a traditional style inhaler and to double the dose of this if possible. Take ventolin regularly via spaced too if needed. Any worries and see the GP but if ventolin not working and very breathless/unable to talk in full sentences then a&e.ask the GP for a rescue pack to always have on hand. It's usually prednisone and either amoxicillin or doxycycline. I hope he's better soon.
