Covid positive friends want to stay

Ohinaquandry · 12/10/2022 09:32

Our friends are due to stay on Friday, we all have had covid this past week and testing negative today, Family member living here is vulnerable, they rang last night to say they have tested positive but as we’ve (just) had covid and a nurse told Family member they can’t get it again for a month, can they still come?

has anyone caught covid again straight after having it?

(there a lot more to this, I’m not drip feeding or explaining more, I just need an answer to my question). Thanks

Tbh, there are multiple variants so you would be at risk. And why would you want sick people to come, regardless of what they are ill with.

MrsWooster · 12/10/2022 09:44

For once, the mumsnet staple “no is a full sentence” fits the bill.
As PP said, there are variants and why would you take a risk?

tulips27 · 12/10/2022 09:45

Whose family member is vulnerable, sorry?

tulips27 · 12/10/2022 09:46

Oh sorry, I get it, I thought you meant the family member had rung to say they had tested positive and it didn't make sense.

Cheeseandlobster · 12/10/2022 09:49

No No and No. It would be the same for other bugs and viruses too. Also they may have a different variant to you so possibly you could get it again

HavingAnOffDAy · 12/10/2022 09:50

My son had it just after new year & then again feb half term.

To be honest though whatever they’ve made up about not getting it again within a month is irrelevant.

I’d not want a family of sick people turning up at my house, especially on the back of my own household being poorly.

Every case of covid is different. I had it last year it felt like a head cold, my mum had it this year & it made her violently sick. I’ve got it again at the moment, feel worse than I did the first time & have shingles with it too. Also am coughing through the night.

I’d not want me as a visitor right now! I’d not have wanted my mum either! 😷

Thanks for your replies. I’m more looking for a medical answer tbh.

ie has anyone had Covid again within a month of having it.

can you catch Covid one strain, then another strain almost straight away.

We’ve had a reply from a trusted medical source (who we didn’t expect to reply to our concerns so quickly) who says we should stay away from those that are positive because of vulnerable family member.

I think I have read about recorded cases where that's happened OP, yes.

When you say vulnerable, how vulnerable?

lap90 · 13/10/2022 08:15

Just no. I'd be telling them to postpone to another date.

toomuchlaundry · 13/10/2022 08:24

Would your visitors only listen to a medical reason for not coming? I would hate to have to stay at someone’s house if I was poorly.

Yes you can. My friend did. I'd say no.

bloodywhitecat · 13/10/2022 08:29

It's your home, visitors don't get to dictate whether or not they can stay, that is incredibly rude of them. Tell them no, you are postponing the visit Flowers

Numbat2022 · 13/10/2022 09:33

I know someone who had it really badly, then got it again three weeks later. Presumably different strains (it was just when we were transitioning from whatever was pre-Omicron to Omicron).

I also just wouldn't want house guests who were knowingly ill! That's a bit grim.

ToGanymedeAndTitan · 17/10/2022 00:42

No vulnerable family members in our household, but my answer would be the same to anyone wanting to stay over when they're sick, whether it's Covid or not!
No, sorry but we'll look forward to seeing you when you're better.
Why would you potentially expose yourself to a dose of illness, whether it be a cold, flu, sickness/diarrhoea or Covid?! 😕
Just nope.

ThaiDye · 17/10/2022 04:50

Yes you can re-catch it within 4 weeks, Australian health guidance says it's possible within 28 days. CEO of Pfizer has had it twice in 5 weeks. I'd say 'absolutely not' to your friends coming to stay. The more infections you get, the higher the risk of long covid and also every new infection generates the possibility of creating a new variant.

NoDairyNoProblem · 17/10/2022 05:03

DD avoided covid until last December- she first tested positive on the 2nd and then again on the 28th. First dose relativity mild, very well afterwards and tested negative for almost three weeks then completely floored with the second dose.

randomusername666 · 17/10/2022 05:15

Apart from the fact you have a vulnerable person living with you who needs to be protected from any illness, I can't understand why sick visitors would want to leave the comfort of their own home and be unwell in yours? Unless they are on holiday and have nowhere else to stay.

It would still be a NO from me.

Glad you got proper advice here.

what is wrong with these “friends” that they even thought it was ok to ask? Presumably they know you have someone vulnerable in the family home?

Kcc73 · 17/10/2022 10:45

I have covid now and I have read over the past few months how more symptomatic the omicron seems now, and generally makes you unwell. I find it hard to imagine that anyone would want to visit others with covid; what if they become more unwell whilst they are there and then you end up 'looking' after them. Let alone the risk of getting another variant . There seems no logic with this covid - who gets it, who doesn't, different symptoms etc etc

Hope you sort it all out.

Ohinaquandry · 17/10/2022 16:50

All sorted. Not coming.
