Current rules?

I finally decided to test after persuading myself for 5 days that I have a very bad cold as everyone else where I work with has a “cold” too, turns out it’s covid. I am actually over the worst days and I’m at the tail end of it. Current Advice is to stay home for five days after you test positive but I tested far too late and I am ok now but showing positive. What do I do? Do I still stay home?

There are no rules. You do as you please, or as your conscience or employer tells you.

Gov uk is always the place to check for any current guidance/rules.

There are no rules.

Do you feel unwell?

Yes. Stay home.

No. Get on with your life.

There are no rules!

what I would do ….stay away from elderly relatives/crowded situations and follow your employers policy.

but you don’t have to do anything you wouldn’t do if it was just a cold.

If nhs worker you test on days 5 & 6, if negative both days and feel alright back to work. If still positive you stay off for 10 days then back to work whether still testing positive or not, so long as well enough. Guess that is guidance as they reckon you can't pass it on if still positive after 10 days anyway. It is ramping up again I'm afraid🤷

I've been in the same situation this week.. symptoms all last weekend but only tested on Monday. I stayed off work this week and kept DD off nursery. No shops and avoiding crowded play parks, but still going for walks in the woods.

Line was super faint today so I think I'll take DD to a playpark tomorrow (will wear a mask if line not totally gone).

No idea if this is overkill or totally reckless!

All my symptoms are now gone, however I will be in touch with my employer thank you!

Here is the current guidance.

It is tricky with timing in situations like yours and the guidance can't assume people test, for obvious reasons. But as you can and have, then a positive test means you are likely to be infectious (as opposed to infected), so I would decide on that basis rather than the number of days.
