Thought that I'd got through the pandemic without catching covid, but it was not to be. 3 days following our plane ride home from holiday, I felt fluey with a tickly throat. The throat irritation was mild at first, but following a constant cough for the first day, I can certainly say that my sore throat was the worst that I have ever experienced. Tested positive that day and really suffered. Whilst the throat pain was definitely the worst, had all the other publicised symptoms: Fever and chills, aching muscles and bones, headaches and persistent phlegmy cough.
Regarding the sore throat, it was unbearable, it was worst at night, when my throat was dry. I was so desperate for relief, I guzzled honey direct from the jar at midnight, which actually helped. From there, I dissolved some in warm (not hot) water and took Co-Codamol tablets, which helped take the edge off, but Nurofen also helped.
I researched the prevalence of an extreme sore throat with covid and found that most articles reported that about 30% of people suffered from a sore throat, most were under thirty years old, however a sore throat can be indicative of catching the virus from airborne particles, which definitely would match my situation, being trapped on a busy aircraft for 6 hours.
If you are suffering from this horrible sore throat, try to stay hydrated, get lots of rest in a room that neither hot nor dry, a shallow bowl of water or a humidifier beside your bed can help. Whilst not good for the waistline, honey or ice cream really helps for short term relief,
