Recovery certificate

Herecomesthestrawberries · 03/09/2022 06:22

Going round in circles and even the GP seem uninformed. Does anyone know how the recovery certificate works (for the Netherlands) please?

If I have Covid between now and my trip and I register a positive Covid LFT, will this show on my NHS app as a recovery certificate?

Thank you for any help.

Would it not be simpler not to register your positive status on the app at all, especially since this is a theoretical scenario? That way covid would not be a factor. I don't think many people do, and you are not obliged to report it. I'm not suggesting for a moment that you ignore any infection and don't isolate etc.

Are you unvaccinated and trying to get round the Dutch rules by registering a 'positive' home lateral flow test? I can't think of any other reason why you would ask a question in this way.

In any case, no, a home lateral flow won't get you a recovery certificate

I'm really confused about the whole thing. I'm trying to determine if it's worth holding off booking for the Netherlands, in the event we may contract Covid between now and our travel date. Or if we should look at other destinations.

I can't be vaccinated.

The GP receptionist said we need a LFT test uploaded onto the gov website but for various reasons, I'm not sure how knowledgable she was.

A certificate of recovery is need for the Netherlands if you're not vaccinated.

Sorry I should have explained in my post that I can't be vaccinated.

www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/netherlands/entry-requirements

Its all explained clearly here OP

Overthebow · 03/09/2022 07:12

If you can’t be vaccinated then you should have a medical exemption which could be used.

MajesticElephant · 03/09/2022 07:16

@Overthebow that’s not true. If you read the official guidance that is not a permitted reason to be allowed entry unvaccinated.

Herecomesthestrawberries · 03/09/2022 07:39

MajesticElephant · 03/09/2022 07:12

Thanks for this. It's just the actual obtaining one that I'm confused about. Probably me not understanding!

@Herecomesthestrawberries I’ve just looked at my nhs pass and it shows the date I had a positive test with a QR code so I assume as long as your dates are ok thats what you need to use :)

MajesticElephant · 03/09/2022 08:18

@Herecomesthestrawberries and if you download the pdf it’s on there (my vaccine record is on a different page).

if you don’t get covid you won’t have a vaccine record or a recovery certificate so I’m not sure you will be allowed in?

Recovery certificate

Thank you so much!

If you medically can't be vaccinated you can a-ply for a medical exemption.

Covid recovery certificates are often a faff to get. You'll need to go via a private provider as they have to be issued by a medical provider, if I remember rightly.

For most countries you cannot use the nhs qr code for travel purposes, when we looked. I was concerned my testing would be positive when I travelled due to close proximity to travel and most countries wouldn't accept just the nhs code - I'd have needed to pay privately to sort. So do check what is and isn't acceptable.

Abraxan · 03/09/2022 08:53

Looks like Netherlands will let you use the nhs recovery app. You used to need to have had a positive PCR to acquire one, rather than an LFT. Is that still the same?

Herecomesthestrawberries · 03/09/2022 12:15

Thank you. I'm sorry for all the questions but where can I get a Covid PCR should I need one?

OP posts:
Overthebow · 03/09/2022 12:20

You can’t get free pcrs anymore but there are many private companies who do them, it depends on your location as to where and which companies.

ilovesooty · 03/09/2022 12:25

I imagine you will have to pay for a private PCR test.

You will have to pay for one privately.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 03/09/2022 12:30

It must be a PCR, you'd need to pay a private company for that. You may then need to pay privately for an NHS doctor to issue a certificate which may or may not be acceptable depending on the country of destination. Basically the system is no longer in place since free testing was abolished so it's almost useless having it as an entry option.

Herecomesthestrawberries · 03/09/2022 13:36

Thanks everyone.

So if I have a private pcr, can I then download the results to the NHS app to obtain the recovery pass?

This op

And this will last longer

MajesticElephant · 03/09/2022 18:13

@averageavocado a medical exemption is not valid in the Netherlands. You have to have vaccine, recovery certificate or a specific reason for visit as defined on their website (e.g. death, visiting a grandchild etc.)

No, a private test will not show on your NHS pass as it's not an NHS test. As I said before you pay for a private PCR test, you then pay privately for a recovery certificate, possibly from an NHS doctor working privately. Some countries will not accept these however. Google something like "get covid recovery letter" and look at the results as that might be easier to see the process. Most suppliers of recovery certs require you to show them a positive PCR certificate. I've currently got covid and realised it's not worth the hassle or expense.

LondonMummer · 04/09/2022 10:14

I just don't understand why/how you are planning on getting Covid before you go. You say you can't be vaccinated so it sounds like you are trying to find an easy way to fake a positive test in order to get a recovery certificate. It can't and shouldn't be done.

ilovesooty · 04/09/2022 12:17

If you can't be vaccinated the Netherlands simply doesn't sound an ideal choice of destination for you at the moment.
