Just that really. Thankfully. Used to have a high temp twice a year and spent a few days in bed (few times knocked me for 6 and spent a week in bed as feeling so rubbish). So no change there for most. Seems it's normal again now. Been abroad twice this year and it feels no different than before.

Kids go back to school this week. The numbers will go up again.

Not necessarily. The pattern of infection was pretty much the same in Scotland and England and our schools stopped in June and have now been back for nearly 3 weeks

LovinglifeAF · 01/09/2022 20:52

I don’t think it’s “just a cold” but the point is nothing more can be done now. The restrictions are over and time for life to carry on but with Covid in the mix. Just yet a toner one of many things that can cause poor health outcomes and kill people.

BeenToldComputerSaysNo · 01/09/2022 20:57

@speakingofart - elaborate as in who has said they love(d) lockdowns or even suggested a lockdown?

speakingofart · 01/09/2022 21:30

Oh I see - I would say at least 1/3 of the posts are explaining it’ll never be over, wear a mask, sit outside, still loving restricting themselves - rather than yep, one of many nasty respiratory viruses, time to get on with life.

it’s the same people who didn’t give a fuck how many children worldwide didn’t go to school, as long as they could sit at home and make other people bring them things.

BeenToldComputerSaysNo · 01/09/2022 22:00

OK, so no one then.

HerRoyalNotness · 01/09/2022 22:14

I think lots of people want to pretend it’s over. It isn’t. I’m in the USA and had to pick up youngest from school with a fever. She can for back when it’s gone 24hrs. No need to test at all for covid, if it is that, she can go back to school and spread it around some more. We had a school district testing site they’ve closed down, no more free tests issued to the public. It’s like they’re all burying their heads in the sand and pretending. My family came from another country where they're all still required to wear masks and found it so strange no one is here and it’s life as ‘normal’

Bornslippery · 01/09/2022 22:32

speakingofart - I think I love you. Totally agree x

Me too a few months ago but I felt a bit poorly but nothing too bad. A bit like we used to say ' I have the bug that is going around'. My 80 year old dad felt the same

Tell that to the immune compromised

Bornslippery · 01/09/2022 22:37

pinklavenders wasn't being goady at all. Just that I am relieved that it is no longer an issue for most. They even downgraded it to a level 2 yesterday

Wizzbangfizz totally agree. Although I think it was good to reduce infection slightly until the vaccines were available

LittleFluffyCloudz · 01/09/2022 22:41

Hmm. I'm on holiday and they're still wearing masks here. Feels strange.

LovinglifeAF definitely. Just like all other illnesses or infections. Just add it to the mix and crack on

I am one of the ones saying the covid pandemic isn't over, not sure how solely from that you can infer that I want to continue lockdown.

Our restrictions are almost over, and that's a good thing. I think for mental health, family and friendships, financially etc, we can't stay in lockdown.

But that in no way means that we are free from covid or that Covid should be lumped in with other illnesses just yet. We still have no idea of repeated illness effects (as I said earlier initial studies are showing a higher chance of bad reactions for subsequent infections), no idea how many people are going to end up with long covid, and no idea what other conditions might increase as a result of Covid infections (particularly for those susceptible to auto-immune diseases like RA and Lupus).

I agree. What more can be done? People aren’t willing to give up any more than they already have done.

Nurse here.

Covid is nothing like the flu. The way it attacks body systems is scary.

We are STILL very much in a pandemic.

It is a horrible disease and in decades we will have a generation whose health outcomes and quality of life will be poorer because they had covid.

Other than that I have no time for people who minimise covid.

Yes, exactly. Thank you.

And thank you, OP, for reminding me why I decided to keep the Covid board hidden.

Lucky for you you can. Those with long covid or immune compromised don't have that option.

Stuff them though hey.

PastMyBestBeforeDate in my office staff who are receiving cancer treatment are also working and they now feel safe too. They also worked before the vaccinations were available (how brave is that -they were amazing)

Well they certainly aren't representative of the wider cancer community who are still very worried.

They are also no more 'brave' than those who had to isolate for months and months and for some saw no one in that time just to stay alive.

Festoonlights · 02/09/2022 07:24

Yes it’s finally over for 99% of the population. The poorly 1% that are vulnerable would be vulnerable to other illnesses and diseases as well, and even if they catch it, there are plenty of treatments available now.

My life is completely back to normal 🥳

KangarooKenny · 02/09/2022 07:26

DD has come back from Reading with covid. It’s her first time having it. I assume a lot of others at Leeds and Reading will have it too.

firef1y · 02/09/2022 07:38

As for the case numbers, last week there were still 109,000 new cases per day, with 100 people dying from COVID every day. 850 people are being admitted to hospital every day due to COVID

Where are you getting these numbers from??
According to the gov dashboard, 24674 positive results were recorded in the last 7 days (3525/day)
419 deaths within 28 days of a positive test were recorded (and yes some of those will have died of something else)
4124 people were admitted with covid (again a percentage of those will be incidental)

Glandular fever has been a bigger issue at Reading this year. Are you sure it’s covid? Similar symptoms

What a way to minimise others lives, but as long as you're ok.

I'm sure they will ,i think the same thing happened at Glastonbury, schools are back or going back ,and winter is coming I don't doubt there will further waves ,but it's how it impacts hospital admissions and deaths
Last year we had the huge omicron wave at Xmas and i did wonder wether more restrictive measures would be brought in but they weren't and deaths remained steady .

BCBird · 02/09/2022 09:02

I really don't think this is over at all.
I am a teacher in a secondary school and have managed to avoid it. HOW?
I lived the life of a recluse even when the restrictions were lifted as I am so frightened of catching it.
Now I will socialise with friends indoors but they and I always do a test.
The 'living with Covid' is more a getting kn with it really. I am baffled why masks were made optional as it really is here to stay.

Aside from the cost to the economy if people do become very unwell no one surely wants to put themselves in a position where they do become unwell. I will continue be the usual line mask-wearing person.
The legacy of Covid has left me with nervousness that I never had before re social interaction. Living alone and also working from home it was a time of severe isolation . I am sure there are many others who have felt, and perhaps still feel like this. Take care all.
