Good morning/evening, first of all my apologies for my english and errors. Pls also note I don't live in UK but somehere in Europe.
To day i discovered I am positive to Covid. I leave in an appartment with two other flatmates where we all have each our own bedroom and bathroom. We share kitchen. I live in this city and appartement because of my job. Half the week I live in this apartment and half in another city 3 hrs away with my partner and our 6 years old daughter. I go to my work city and appartement every Sunday. Today As soon as I received the result I communicated to family doctor so that my quarantine officially starts. I also advised my flatmates telling them I will try to limit myself from using the kitchen to the minimum when they are not around, doing the necessary cleaning and disinfecting, the rest closed in my room. One said no problem and offered to help with shopping when needed. The other who at this moment is on one week leave with her families on another city said as she is afraid to usr the same kitchen even if not at the same time , she said I have to ask my husband to drive and come pick me up, leave the appartement and do the quarantine at my family place. I understand her worry but is it me being egoist and inconsiderate deciding to stay put where I am and do the quarantine? What would you have done?

I would go home because if you get really poorly it's the best place to be. Flatmate is being silly though for two reasons

1 she might be asymptomatic and given it to you

  1. She's already been exposed to you anyway

I'd stay where you are on the basis that your flatmates will have been exposed to you already, and moving will expose more people unnecessarily, giving them the inconvenience of needing to quarantine on top on the risk of getting ill.

Thank you all. Just to clarify the one who said its ok was in the same apartment the last 3 days with me (we never spend time together as we all work but we might cross each other in the kitchen or not meet at all in weeks as I said I normally use this appartment from sunday evening till Wednesday evening when I take the long distance bus home). The one who wants me gone is currently away on leave coming back next monday. The question is should I ask my husband to come pick me up travel 3hrs with him to do quarantine back home and risk him during travel? Husb and daughter tested negative yesterday evening. According to her she doesn't want to risk as we use the same fridge to store food even if I said I will only use the kitchen quickly when she is at work and clean/disinfect the kitchen counter the things i touch etc... I now feel a bit guilty for wanting to stay here. Perhaps the precaution I say I will take are not enough and will risk them. Do you think she is right?

Most quarantine rules prohibit you from travelling, so you couldn't and shouldn't do it even if you wanted to. But no, I don't think you should. You will put more people at risk. Stay in your room as much as possible, disinfect as much as possible. I do have friends who managed to successfully isolate in their own homes so that no one else in the household got it so it can be done. Good luck

If they are not coming back until Monday thats a good 5 days since you tested positive , how long is quarantine in your country

Linda05 · 18/08/2022 08:36

7 days quarantine (if you have 2 vaccines + booster which I do) and then I do the second test to see If I am negative.
