Immunosuppressed - evusheld

Looks like it's going to be announced tomorrow that the prophylactic Evusheld - an AstraZeneca treatment that gives those unable to produce antibodies to covid from the vaccines - has been shelved as a plan for the U.K.

It's been here approved in the U.K. since March. At least 32 other countries, including the USA, have made it available to the most vulnerable.

Not heard of it? I'm not surprised. No one gives a fuck about the 500,000 or so who could benefit in this country. Many are still effectively shielding.

It's a disgrace that the government have decided Covid is over. And trumpet how they rolled the vaccines out.

The kind of hospital treatments that vulnerable people could need after contracting covid are huge in comparison to the cost of Evusheld.

It's tantamount to eugenics.

Can you imagine what it would be like if the restrictions you had for lockdown in March 2020 had never ended?

Totally agree on all of your points, but this is Tory Britain where I'm alright Jack and if you have a disability or illness your not a whole person who contributes so off you pop.
my dh would qualify for this treatment he's a high rate tax payer who employs many people but obviously his lack of immunity makes him a drain on society and not worth the cost so🤷🏼‍♀️

Is there any update on this? I’ve googled but can’t find anything on it being shelved yet.

I've asked about on social media and haven't had a response yet re link to a release. There was some speculation that it wasn't released today but no idea why etc.

Another thing I heard is that dept of health not planning to get any before next summer at the earliest. And not going to be available privately either.

But, as I say, no one has pointed me to any press release or other. This isn't helped by the fact that it's barely been mentioned in main stream media except a few articles in the press in the last couple of weeks. And plenty anecdotal reports of immunosuppressed people asking their consultants, GPs etc and the reply being that they've not heard of it.

I emailed my MP, Sajid Javid and Wes Streeting a while ago (obviously Javid was still health sec then) and had zero replies. There's very little mentioned in Parliament apart from one or 2 MPs bringing it up.

That is an odd move.

I've now seen on social media that there was a piece confirming this on BBC Radio 4 Today programme.

Money saving?

Apparently Nice are still doing trials, who work out wherever a drug works and is worth the cost, and will not be finishing their work until next spring and apparently, if they say yes, would have to be available by about 3 months later.

Currently, no covid vaccines or treatments are available privately in the country.

Plenty of people I see on social media report having had antibody tests and have no measurable antibodies; some even after 5 vaccine doses. Yet all they are being offered is the prospect of more does as preventative treatment.
