Please help 😫My 7 month old baby just got covid. He has fever at 38.8 degrees and was puking during feeding twice. So he has empty stomach and the medication is all out too. I'm so concerned and have been waiting for 20min now to get through 111. Has anyone experienced this? Please give us some advice! Thank you so much!😭

Keep him cool i.e. don't wrap him up in layers, otherwise the temperature would be difficult to go down.

florianfortescue · 05/08/2022 20:54

The puking is a symptom of the fever. Used to happen to my DD too when she was a baby. As soon as her temp spiked she'd vomit.

Just try and keep his temperature down, cool flannels etc, and get Calpol into him at the next opportunity.

jammiewhammie65 · 05/08/2022 20:58

It's probably the fever making him vomit. Try calpol again and se if you can get the temp down. Strip down to just a nappy and open all the windows try not to cuddle too much he must be cool. Hope you get the phone call soon

Oh you poor things.

My baby had Covid at 4 months. If it helps in any way they are little tough things and get through it quickly 😘😘

111 might advise you to give another dose of calpol or nurofen to the little one.

For now just keep baby in a nappy or take nappy off and offer lots of milk if they take it

Hope your little one gets better very soon x

Flopisfatteningbingforchristmas · 05/08/2022 21:09

If bf, keep feeding. FF small amounts frequently. Skin to skin is good for regulating their temp.

whywhywhy5 · 05/08/2022 21:14

Don't try Calpol again unless you're advised to. Even if you're sure it came straight back up. It could be really dangerous.

Both mine had Covid when little and the main symptom was vomiting, although they had 40.5 degree temperatures. They were fine after two days.

Hope your night is ok x

My 10 month old had Covid 4 weeks ago. No flu/cold symptoms. She had vomiting and diarrhoea for a full week. GP said it had to run it's course & to keep her hydrated. Get some Diauralyte

petiteHBB · 05/08/2022 21:51

Thank you all for the quick replies, really appreciated!

Just now we tried to feed him a bit more and he vomitted again right away and the temperature is increasing to 39.6 now :( We talked to 111 and someone will call us back in 2h.

Should I be concerned about his temperature now? @HackettGreen

and did you try anything else when your kids' temperature was 40.5? @whywhywhy5

My baby had covid at 10 months and was vomiting too. It lasted 2-3 days and then he was fine.

We used suppository nurofen and paracetamol to take his temperature down and just kept offering him milk and water.

whywhywhy5 · 05/08/2022 22:07

Calpol was bringing the fever down so we just waited for the fever to burn through. It's worrying, but it needs to happen. If Calpol isn't making the fever come down, 111 might advise you to try Nurofen on top (but obviously that would be case specific). We cosleep when they have high temperatures to keep an eye on them, but apart from that, just offer water and wait it out.

Mine only ever ate melon when they were poorly like that when little x

Had this myself a couple of weeks. Gp was helpful. Said small feeds everg 1.5 hours. Keep cool by stripping down and keep an eye on wet nappies and breathing. If you hand them a toy and thry show interest they're probably OK. Just keep an eye. Alternate Calpol and neurofen.

After the first 36 hours she was a lot better. A bit miserable for about 4 days and sleepy for two weeks. But they will be OK xx

SpotlessMind88 · 05/08/2022 22:35

My daughter had covid when she was 17 months and vomited after breastfeeding and refused to eat or drink anything else. It was scary but i stripped her down to her nappy. I also bought electrolyte ice lollies which she actually consumed and liked and these cooled her down as well as keeping her hydrated.

it is scary though, i hope your baby gets well soon!!

RedCardigan · 05/08/2022 22:39

Like others have said, pack an overnight bag for you and baby. So water bottle, snacks, charger, comfy clothes, cash. I’m of the belief if you do it and don’t need it then the effort in packing it was worth it to not need it.
Hopefully 111 will reply to you soon.

jammiewhammie65 · 05/08/2022 22:48

My gp told me if fever got to 40 take straight to hospital.

whywhywhy5 · 06/08/2022 08:08

How is he this morning, OP?

petiteHBB · 06/08/2022 11:16

Thanks again for all the comments, really helpful! Thanks a lot for asking @whywhywhy5 He has stopped vomiting and could drink small amount of milk. Each dose of Nurofen brought his temperature down but it would slowly go back to around 38.5. Not sure if we should be worried about it. We waited until 1am last night but didn't get a call back from 111. It seems they called at 3am but we missed it :( We'll call again today.
