Are teenagers (12-15) going to get boosters?

I have just realised it is 7 months since my DD’s second jab; also that she won’t be covered as ‘fully vaxxed” to travel in October half-term (more than 270 days, at that point)

I’ve got a bit behind with where the vax programme is at; does anyone know what the govt plans are for giving this age range a third jab? I assume those countries currently requiring full vaccination or a PCR before departure will probably still have the same requirements then?

I hope so. We don't have proper holidays but I don't want them off school ill. They get flu jabs so need a covid jab too.

Babies have three polio vaccinations by four months, one more before school and one more in their teens. So five polio vaccinations by the time they're adults.

starcatfish · 31/07/2022 13:34

And covid itself carries a risk of myocarditis greater than that of the vaccine.

Bindayagain · 31/07/2022 13:36

The rules re boosters are surely different as most teens would not have had any opportunity to have one! As in this, and I assume most countries, teenagers were among the last to be offered the vaccine they could hardly have had the same amount of vaccines as the average adult.
(loving the idea that anti-vax posts = "common sense" 😂)

Don’t be obtuse (or silly) - the reason why it would be great for teenagers to be offered another jab is to minimise disruption of yet another school year

But the vaccines, certainly the original ones developed against Alpha, do not prevent transmission at all.... so they won't have any impact on school disruption.

Vaccines have protective benefits other than reducing transmission by reducing infection.

Anti-vaxxers are free to not take any vaccines, however if anyone has been vaccinated, it seems somewhat immoral to suggest that others do not.

Immoral? To suggest that healthy teens don't need the vaccine?

Do you suggest that every healthy person should not have a vaccine?

Heathy teenagers need and get all manner of vaccines.

Delatron · 31/07/2022 18:51

How long do you think Europe will have these rules for?

Soon it will be a year since my booster. I’ve had Covid twice. Vaccines are great at preventing serious disease (which is more of a risk for the elderly). Just seems pointless to insist 12 year olds have been vaccinated when it does nothing to prevent spread.

Delatron · 31/07/2022 18:54

I’m not anti vax. DS 13 had both when I thought it would help prevent spreading infection.

But the case for 12 year olds seems less clear cut now. DS2 had had Covid twice asymptomatic once and mild sniffle the next. I would be vaccinating him to travel as I don’t see him at risk of serious disease from Covid. I’d rather not to be honest.

dementedpixie · 31/07/2022 19:01

You can do a private test before travel if you don't want the vaccine

Delatron · 31/07/2022 19:12

Yeah I know. It’s just expense and extra stress I don’t need before holiday. For rules that seem a bit pointless now.

pinklavenders · 31/07/2022 20:40

Do you suggest that every healthy person should not have a vaccine?

Yes, in my opinion healthy teens do need the current covid vaccine

pinklavenders · 31/07/2022 20:41

Yes

But this thread is not about 'all manner of vaccines'

It's about the covid vaccine!

See, that's the difference between you and me; I don't need you to agree with me.

Vaccination is a personal decision made with private knowledge of the circumstances and health advice. Therefore I don't go about touting my views because they're not fully informed as to the circumstances and individual priorities.

My initial comment was simply that if you took the vaccine, and knew nothing about someone else apart from their age, and do not work in the field so have no insight into vaccine performance, then yes it is immoral. If you disagree, knock yourself out. You say what you want (no vaccine), and so do I (immoral).

You haven't answered my question as to whether every healthy person should not have a vaccine, either. I'm perfectly happy for you to have no covid vaccine ever again for the rest of your life. Just as I'm sure that the parent of the pre/teen will make the right decision for them. I think it is both hypocritical and immoral for people who take vaccines to suggest that someone else should not have one.

Glad to see there are some people on here with common sense . All the stats shows that it doesn’t stop them catching it so the argument about school disruption is nonsense . And the fact the rules are different from 12-17 about boosters versus adults shows the lunacy of the rules.

Exactly it's all bollocks. You can easily fake a lft and get into Spain if you wanted to. France have seen sense and got rid of vax requirements now too.
