Has anyone got it while on holiday?

If so, what did you do?

We’re due to be going to France on holiday in a few weeks time and my excitement at the prospect is rather dampened by the worry about what might happen while we are there. I know that you still have to isolate in France (5 days if you’re vaxxed), but what are you meant to do if you are due to be leaving your accommodation? We have a week on a campsite plus four nights in various other locations. It wouldn’t feel right to go and stay overnight in a B&B knowing (or suspecting) one or more of us is positive. Do you just drive home??

I feel like I need a plan to cover all possible scenarios, otherwise the stress over it all will take away any enjoyment of the holiday.

How did you deal with this if you were ill on holiday?

Do you have to test? If not, I wouldn’t

My plan is a hotel that my insurance would cover. I have a very good policy that would take care of everything. That’s the only scenario I worry about.

Yes I did. Thought I had caught a sniffle on the plane. Didn't realise it was covid until I was back home. The symptoms were very mild.

We're currently camping in the UK. I tested positive yesterday and DS today. He's puking in a ikea zip lock bag and I'm having chills in the compartment next door.

Too sick to pack up and go home, so we're staying and trying to isolate - it's difficult and uncomfortable.

I don't have any answers, just fingers crossed you avoid it OP

No you don’t have to test, but I’m thinking about what to do if we’re actually poorly with it, which lots of people are.

But would a hotel be prepared to take you in this situation? I imagine most would not want you staying if you are obviously positive. And I don’t think it would be acceptable to knowingly go and stay somewhere when you’re ill.

That sounds really rotten, you have my sympathies. It’s exactly the scenario that worries me. Hope you’re all feeling better soon 💐

Don't test. If you are triple jabbed and had covid before the chance of symptoms beyond a mild cold is unlikely

pinklavenders · 29/07/2022 12:15

It's not about testing.

It's about feeling very ill while away from home. Hopefully you won't feel bad for more than a couple of days!

pinklavenders · 29/07/2022 12:17

I caught Covid on the flight home. So thankfully I was able to rest and recover at home.

I guess it's a risk wort taking - are you particularly vulnerable?

FrownedUpon · 29/07/2022 12:21

I know someone who was ill with covid abroad. Fortunately they were in a self catering villa, so could just stay in, away from others. She was very poorly though & quite scared being away from home. I’d be worried about it happening too.

pinklavenders · 29/07/2022 12:30

I'd also prefer to speak the local language in case you need medical help.

SortingOffice · 29/07/2022 14:42

Didn't get covid on holiday but I share your concern.
I isolated for a week before going to avoid infection and wore high grade masks on the flight. Got the best insurance I could find.
Of course I would test because I am vulnerable. Lost 3 months to covid last year so the prospect of getting it on holiday abroad was almost enough to put me off going.

We live in the US and got it whilst on holiday in the UK this summer. Like you I had been worried it would happen beforehand ….and in fortunately it did. We couldn’t go home because we had a long haul flight so we booked last minute airbnbs until we were well enough to fly home. I felt bad about staying in them but there was nothing else we could do. We had to stay somewhere.
