Feeling detached, effort of focus, light sensitivity.

I guess I’m looking for some reassurance really.

Tested positive for covid 2.5 weeks ago and got a negative LFT a week ago. A few days before my positive I started feeling really weird - sort of light headed, detached and with a mild headache. Covid then hit mainly with sinus pressure/headache/dizzy symptoms.

I’ve been left now with strange head feelings (so hard to explain), this sense of detachment like I’m aware I’m looking out of my eyes and almost as if I have to work harder to focus. I don’t have double vision or anything, just like I have to strain my eyes to focus clearly. I have astigmatism and normally only feel this way when I’m exhausted and after too much screen time. I also feel mildly photophobic and it feels more comfortable if im
wearing sunglasses.

I ended up seeing an optician at the weekend who said my eyes look really healthy and with no evidence of inflammation/raised pressure around optic nerve.

Could this be post-covid symptoms? I struggle with health anxiety so have obviously decided it’s a brain tumour and not covid related. Maybe it’s too soon after covid to expect to be back to normal.

Has anyone else experienced anything similar?

thanks!

Title should read effort TO focus obviously 🙄

Very similar symptoms here if that's reassuring? Everything is too bright and my head is still incredibly woolly. I have astigmatism and as you describe it's like when you're feeling really tired and it's all more of an effort to see properly. I also lost my smell and taste which doesn't help - makes you feel very detached!

I'm a week post Covid positive test.

It's a horrible virus - make sure you get lots of rest. Hope you're feeling better soon!

Thanks @LookdeepintotheParka, that does help (although I’m so sorry you’re feeling it too!) It’s just early days for both of us I guess. I hate feeling so detached and wish the visual side would feel more natural again rather than an effort as it’s making work a challenge.

You rest up too, hope you feel better soon.

I know exactly what you mean. Last summer with my first bout of covid I was struggling to explain how I felt, but my head and mind felt kind of detatched from me. I compared to it to a really major jetlag if you have just flown non stop very long haul.

It went away after lots of rest.

Lilithslove · 30/07/2022 13:39

I know what you mean. You say you usually only get it when you're exhausted so that's your answer. Your body is exhausted from fighting off a virus and you need to rest.

Alexa1990 · 30/07/2022 15:16

I have all of this. I’ve cried for the past three days occasionally because I feel so rubbish and I just want to feel normal again. I’m 32 and fed up of this controlling life!

Foreverbaffled · 01/08/2022 15:59

Thank you @HesterShaw1 @Lilithslove I really appreciate your thoughts. And yes, you’re probably right that it’s related to feeling exhausted. I have two children under 5 so I’m either at work or looking after them so rest is hard to find! My littlest still wakes up multiple times a night to breastfeed. Honestly it’s so hard to get that rest so no doubt it’s delaying my recovery.

@Alexa1990 sending sympathy. It’s very upsetting. I really hope you feel better soon. No real improvement this end but it’s early days. When did you have covid?
