Nearly two weeks of covid, still poorly, feeling low 😔

Hello, I've had covid since the first symptom 2 weeks ago tomorrow. I'm still too poorly to really do anything, I can force myself to wash my hair but not having any normality back in my life is really getting me down. Everyone else seems to bounce back and be getting back to normal after covid. I just feel like a zombie, I'm crying a lot on and off as I'm just so frustrated of feeling like this. Is there hope?xxx

I'm so sorry to hear you're still struggling. Maybe it's time to speak to your GP? Could you give them a call tomorrow?

Magic1231 · 20/07/2022 18:31

Yeah, I think I'll have to, I'm not sure there's anything at all they can do anyway. I felt a little brighter yesterday evening despite still feeling poorly, but waking up again this morning with the exact same symptoms broke me again. I hate the idea that this is just it now xxx

I am feeling more back to normal after two weeks. I felt quite low and despondent, odd feeling like it would just drag on for ever and worried it was all in my mind. Still getting tired and muzzy headed though but feel OK in myself . Other people I know just bounced back, negative in a few days, no issues . Also had odd numbness in my hands which seems to have gone now, again also thought I might be making it up. Also ear ache now gone. I also worried this was it now. Hope you are soon on the mend .

Magic1231 · 21/07/2022 11:24

@Doingmybest12 Sorry you seem to be going though the same thing as me. As you say I just cant bounce back like everyone else seems to. It's almost like for them it's just the boredom then the relief of finally testing negative and getting back to life. I feel very dazed, my brain just won't function as it used to. I really hope we both get back to normal functioning xxx

I’m on day 23 and feel like I’m getting worse and worse. Most symptoms have gone except the crushing tiredness and mental fog. Fully vaccinated and boosted and this is my first time catching it. Sorry I know you were looking for hope rather than negativity 😔

Madhairday · 21/07/2022 12:51

I'm the same OP. Tested positive 2 weeks ago today and have been really, really ill with it (including in hospital). I don't feel recovered at all - I'm incredibly weak, every action is hard work, I feel faint when I stand up and breathless all the time. It's really rubbish and like you say I'm feeling down about it too. Going away tomorrow but have had to borrow a wheelchair as I can't walk at all, and will be resting most of the time. It's hard work.

Sorry this isn't a hopeful post but it is one full of sympathy and solidarity and I hope that helps a bit. Hope you feel a little better each day.

The heat really didn't help either did it!

ParrotsAteThemAll · 21/07/2022 13:03

I tested positive for 6 days and now negative for 3 days, most symptoms have gone although still have slight bunged up sinuses but the fatigue and fuzzy head are the worst. I start to feel normal and do things like going to the supermarket yesterday but then felt completely wiped out after! I’m wanting to cut the grass today but I can’t face it so lying here with a buzzy head and just feeling teary like I’m never going to get better!

Magic1231 · 21/07/2022 20:26

Thanks for all the replies, as sad as it is that you're all suffering too, as you say its solidarity, so I appreciate your responses ❤
I'm also double jabbed and one booster... it makes me wonder did this give us protection or did this latest strain just dodge it, because if it did give us protection it doesnt bare thinking about how poorly we'd be without it.
The head fog and fatigue are just awful, it's not even a fatigue where you can just sleep it off, it's like all over your body.
I've tested negative two days in a row now so went to my local town for the sake of nt mental health really, it was nice to be out but just felt soooo weak and disconnected somehow, my memory has got worse xxx

I feel like this op. My husband is bouncing around washing the car and I can barely make myself cereal.

nonstoprenovation · 22/07/2022 05:30

I promise the fog lifts. I've had it 3 times, and have been hospitalised 3 times during the last 2 years with covid related sickness.

All I will say is eat well, lots of fruit, veg, protein and cut out the junk. Drink so much fluid and boost victim D you can buy it in a mouth spray. Having the mindset and food for recovery really helps, fresh soups and salads packed with goodness.

I've found this virus gets your gut and hormones, it impacts thyroid and mood, and the food and nutrition for recovery and gut health really helps.

It effects women way worse as we are medically more complex but your hormones will be so out of place, and that won't be helping that feeling of dread.

I also think covid itself is partly nasty virus and partly fear, and once that fear is in our head it's hard to shift.

It's a horrid feeling, but I do promise it lifts if you can go out get a cookery book and stock up on some homemade veggie soups.

nonstoprenovation · 22/07/2022 05:31

Vitamin D even 🤦‍♀️

WarriorN · 22/07/2022 07:06

I'm so sorry - my first dose of omicron in jan hit me like a bus. It actually got worse after two weeks. I wasn't well enough to work for 5 weeks. And even then wasn't at all with it for another few weeks, with brain fog and fatigue. I feel it took 3-4 months in total.

Long covid is diagnosed after 3 months which indicates that the issues can last as long as 3 months.

I'm also peri menopausal and now know I wasn't on enough hrt which I think made my recovery harder.

I've just had it again and although bad I seemed to shake it off after a week. I've had fatigue on and off for the last two weeks. Consultant friend who works the covid wards and had it twice said it's normal to feel unwell for a while. They're really struggling with absences of 2-3 weeks and a lot of people are getting it for the first time.

Real flu can last a long time and it seems it's very like that.

Try to rest as much as possible and eat and drink as well as possible.

bloomflower · 22/07/2022 07:09

get some friendly bacteria, they can help a lot, proven to help apparently

WarriorN · 22/07/2022 07:10

I get nerve issues with covid, had a bad flare yesterday. Extreme fatigue, tingling lips and tongue and hands and feet.

The memory issues are real! Many of us who had it in Jan said we felt like we had holes in our brain. I do feel like that went after 3 months (I do also think in my case more hrt has helped.)

WarriorN · 22/07/2022 07:11

Yes to vit d, friendly bacteria and possibly b12/ b vits

Some also find anti histamines help the brain fog

WarriorN · 22/07/2022 07:12

Mood - I was exceptionally low after first covid. Also felt detached from reality.

Magic1231 · 22/07/2022 10:55

Thankyou so much for your very helpful responses, you're lovely.
Its reassuring to know that it should pass overtime. I've upped my vitamins a lot, taking an extra couple of vitamin D tablets a day.
Its definitely made me VERY cautious around catching it again... my guards gone up like the period in 2020.
It's also effected my nerves, I had some issues funnily enough from another bad virus I had in 2016 which left me with tinnitus and some neurological problems, like jolting when I sleep, hard to explain but it obviously targeted my immune system. Luckily I got used to these effects with the help of antidepressants.
So yeah, having another bad virus really put the fear in me... as you say, it sure does mess with your hormones! I was breaking down crying each day in despair and to the point my loved ones were thinking I could end up suicidal, its really a horrible virus. I'm glad you made a recovery ❤

I'm wary of antihistamines as I just think it might make me even more fatigued...

FarFarFarAndAway · 22/07/2022 18:05

Your experience sounds very similar to mine, it's extremely depressing in those early days as you can do so little and you feel like you will be like that for ever. I also had an exacerbation of neurological symptoms like jolting, tingling, difficulty sleeping. All I can say is that it is grim, but this is also normal for some people, obviously others around you might pick up sooner, but I have picked up again although some weeks later. I agree that if you can eat healthily this will help, up your vitamins (I take zinc as well) and just give in to it a bit then eventually this will pass. It doesn't feel like it but it will pass and you will feel like your old self again. It's not necessarily quick though and it's very frustrating when you are still ill and everyone else seems ok, although that's good they are not sick!
