What's the window for catching Covid now? 2-15 days from being with someone with Covid like before, or has it changed?

Hi ... I've just got Covid.

I'm pretty sure it started 48 hours after exposure as I've been very careful until Saturday, when I was in a large room full of around 90 people.

Now wondering how long it might take DD and DH to catch it from me, if they're going to? Would be great to know they're safe after say 10, or 15, or whatever number of days, especially as DD has serious anxiety (on meds, etc).

What's the latest consensus??

I'd go by the old isolation rules and consider it to be 10 days

RainbowCrayons · 19/07/2022 14:28

Maybe just anecdotally, but most people I know who have caught it recently have been at the earlier end of that. I think I read average had dropped from 6 days to 5 days with a lot showing symptoms about day 2 or 3

Grissini50 · 19/07/2022 14:36

I was wondering this. My parents were with us on Sat/ Sun and my Dad tested positive on Monday morning. We are meant to go on holiday next week.

Nipplestoyou · 19/07/2022 14:39

Two days in my case, I am pretty certain.

However unless your DP has been isolating scrupulously at home you and the rest of the family might catch it from him at any point of his illness. Living with someone and sharing bathrooms etc is not like someone you see once, catch Covid from or don't , and then don't see again.

boniobiscuit · 19/07/2022 15:19

I'm pretty sure mine was about 2.5 days after being where I think I was exposed?

Still showing a faint positive line on day 10 #boredofit

nokitchen · 19/07/2022 15:21

Two days for us recently

eurochick · 19/07/2022 15:31

Anecdotally it seems to be pretty short now.

bluegardenflowers · 19/07/2022 20:25

From our personal experience 3-5 days

WanderingFruitWonderer · 19/07/2022 20:52

Definitely shorter now. I was about 3 days. I looked it up after, and with the new strain that is fairly typical.

AnotherNC22 · 19/07/2022 20:56

DH exposed on Friday. Tested negative on Sat then positive on Tues. I tested negative on Thurs then positive on Friday. So looking like 3-5days for us too.

BogRollBOGOF · 19/07/2022 21:16

I caught it on the Monday at Urgent Care. Tested faintly positive on the Friday after a scratchy throat went into day 2 (and wasn't behaving like my usual hayfever(

I hadn't been anywhere else indoors due to DS's injury.
I was sharing a waiting room for 2 hours with a virusy toddler whose mum wanted anti-biotics for the virus 🤦‍♀️

No one else in the family caught it from me despite living normally, (just swerved indoors/ busy outdoor spaces) and I was fine by Tuesday.

loveyouradvice · 20/07/2022 06:36

really interesting - seems most of you caught it as fast as me!

Anecdotally, every single person in our family tested positive from our latest infection of covid

MrsMaverick · 20/07/2022 08:19

For me I started having symptoms about 2 days from probable exposure but didn't test positive until another 2 days later.

IdiotCreatures · 20/07/2022 08:22

It was around three days for me. Tested negative on day three but positive on day four.

bigbluebus · 20/07/2022 08:28

DS and I both started with symptoms 3 days after DH did and both tested positive the following day. I think these latest variants are pretty quick.

MyCatIsNotFittingMyKitchen · 20/07/2022 08:42

I was exposed Wed, contact tested positive Thursday. I tested negative Sat but started with symptoms and tested positive on Monday. So 5 days here.

DH and DS2 tested positive in June with what I assume was the same variant. I am mystified as to how I dodged it that time - we ventilated well and DH and I slept apart, but obviously you can’t distance from a poorly, clingy toddler. DS1 and I escaped it that time. Yet I am sure I caught it from someone I had a coffee with this time!

Fawnia · 20/07/2022 23:37

Had it 3 times since June last year and it’s always been 2 days for me

sheusesmagazines · 21/07/2022 11:58

In March it took me 14 days to catch it from DS.
July just 2 days!
