Are covid reinfections known about?

I was with someone last night and this morning who had a banging headache. I suggested - 'I hope it's not a covid headache...i wonder if it's worth it to test to find out'.

I doubt it is covid but who knows? It's likely heat and tiredness and some stress.

She piped up and put me straight and said she already had covid.

Her covid was 4 months ago though. She's also a medical professional and would be front line dealing with this kind of stuff. She would have patients too.

It was her attitude of a dismissal of a reinfection that irked me. How can she help people who are ill in the future if she doesn't believe in reinfections. People will be going going forward with reinfections and she won't care.

Well anyone with half a brain cell will know about covid re infection

Alas a good chunk of those living in this country fail on the first part

Perhaps she isn't clear on how long immunity lasts and/or the potential for the newest variants to evade immunity. It is possible to become re-infected 4-5 weeks after a previous infection.

yep, I got it 5 months after originally getting it. definitely possible. And common by the sounds of things.

I think that's a bit of a stretch

personally I wouldn't test for every headache, unless headaches were very unusual for someone anyway.

but yes, it's obvious reinfection happen. My own Dd had it twice within 5/6 weeks - she was a close contact each time and caught it each time. Thankfully not ill at all.

I know someone who has had it 3 times and symptoms were worse each time.

Nhs staff (at least where I am) are still expected to test for covid twice a week.

I currently have Covid and had it 5 months ago. I don't think its been said how long immunity lasts but its clearly not long.

Yeah, people have definitely caught it again after 3 months. I've just got it again pretty much exactly 6 months after last time. Caught it off DS last time, seems like from DH this time. A lot of people (including me) are finding they only test positive 3-4 days after symptoms first appear at the moment.
