The aftermath of a covid infection

I became unwell last week.
It started with fever and body aches. I tested positive on two home tests. Then I lost my taste and smell. I developed a slight cough.

I presume I am on the mend and out from the infectious window now.

I am left with other symptoms this week.

There's sinitius issues. I feel it at the back of my nose. I have a squeak in my voice. Every time I bend, there's a headache.

My body still aches. My lower back is sore and feels weak. My 2 knees are sore when I bend.

I am tired. I am so tired. I feel hungover. I was rushed back to work last weekend and I am so so so tired. Is that fatigue?

Is this stuff normal after an infection?

I am vaccinated and boosted.

Sounds completely normal I'm afraid from what I'm hearing from friends.
I had covid in late April and although I was through most of the symptoms in about 10 days I'd say it was at least a month before I felt 'normal' again.
Even then I feel I was lucky as some people report fatigue and other symptoms for many months.

Take it easy if you can and give your body time to recover!

My job won't allow me to pace myself. It's all or nothing with them. I'm dreading next week already. If this is how I am feeling now. I am due my period next week and I have a small window of opportunity to go to the toilet and change if I need too but if I miss that, that's it. I'm wearing the same pad all day long. I have to wear big maternity pads in case I don't get a chance to get to a toilet and a big pad will provide coverage for 10 to 12 hours if I need it.
There's a heatwave promised too on top of this.

I wonder would my GP sign me out of work for a week? If it means that I can rest and recover at home.

I'm still struggling with back ache, breathlessness and feeling tired 4 months on. Doctor said all tests are normal and they don't refer to the long Covid clinic until 6months. I suspect no one cares as I can still work but I do a desk job part-time mostly from home ( work have said I can do more wfh while recovering).

Yes get signed off. I have long covid but the initial infection feeling awful bit lasted me about 3 weeks then I went back to work then week 6 it hit me and came back. Its been 5 months now and it's getting better on and off.

Take time to heal now.

I can confirm, doctors are shit and useless. You need to be dropping dead before they consider looking at you and helping you and even at that stage they will likely say its mild and play it down as much as possible.

Will a GP sign me out of work for a week?

Do I need to be honest with my GP or do I over exaggerate my symptoms?

I am not too sure if am dealing with another symptom. Basically every time I eat I am feeling my heart racing. There is pain in my left chest area. I don't know if it's covid or not.

I haven't really exercised much this week but work was busy and had me on my feet most days.

I know if I go into work next week I will likely be looking at least a 50 or 60 hour week with very little breaks. I am also due my period and there's a heatwave too. I don't want to work under any of these circumstances. It wouldn't be too bad if I was guaranteed a balance to my wor days but that's not going to happen.

I think I could have shit, piss, blood and vomit coming out from all of my ends and my employer will likely still believe I am faking it.

They should do, if you feel you can't work. Just be honest with them about the symptoms. They know it can take months to recover thats why they don't look at long covid until about 12 weeks.

UniversalTruth · 15/07/2022 23:07

Are you in the UK? You can self certify for up to 7 days. You can tell work you'll see how you feel on Weds (when the heat has gone.)

AhaLyn · 15/07/2022 23:08

Get the chest pain checked out op.

UniversalTruth · 15/07/2022 23:41

Sorry missed the chest pain. Yes, get that checked out op.
