Covid - AIBU??? Opinions needed please

Posting because I’m incapable of working this out for myself and needed a second opinion.

I tested positive for covid last week and have been avoiding going out, apart from when essential like working and dog walking. I haven’t been to any shops and have avoided other people as much as I can. I know legally it’s fine to go out, but it doesn’t seem right to go out and spread an illness whether it’s covid, D&V, chicken pox etc

So my dilemma. I’ve got a big birthday party this friday and I’ve been excited for it for months. It will be 12 days since first testing positive.

I know legally there’s nothing wrong with going but I really don’t know. It’s in a pub and club so will be very busy. But it will be 12 days since I got covid. I know there’s no rules anymore but 14 days is the number that jumps to mind when I think about how long I should leave it. But other people would say 10.

I really, really want to go and have been looking forward to it for months but I really don’t know if it would be unreasonable.

Thanks in advance x

I think you’ll be ok.
have you tested again?

DockOTheBay · 13/07/2022 15:09

12 days is fine. Even at the height of the pandemic we only had to isolate for 10 days.

DaphneSprucesPippasClack · 13/07/2022 15:13

When did you last test positive?

Purpleforthewin · 13/07/2022 15:14

There are still rules, it just isn't as restricted as before. Use this was a guide. www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/self-isolation-and-treatment/when-to-self-isolate-and-what-to-do/ if you no longer have symptoms you should be fine.

Sharrowgirl · 13/07/2022 15:14

Go.

Purpledaffofdils · 13/07/2022 15:14

Still testing positive on ltf (did one 2 days ago, I’ll do another tonight)

sorry to drop feed but I just realised it’s actually 11 days not 12!

It’s fine.

if you test bear in mind you could still have a faint line. I don’t think that means you’re infectious.

if I was feeling well I’d go.

Kokapetl · 13/07/2022 15:16

It has been 10 days isolation for a while now.

Even for NHS staff it is currently considered ok to be back working with patients only 5 days after a positive test if they have negative lateral flows on days 5 and 6.

If you take a lateral flow test on day 10 and it's negative then definitely fine. But probably fine anyway if you feel well.

Didimum · 13/07/2022 15:17

10 days was the first recommended isolation time because it was found that the contagious period of Covid ended at that time – at its longest – even if you still test positive. Being positive is not the same as being contagious. The advice is now 5 days as the subsequent variants have a shorter contagious period. I wouldn't give 12 days a second thought.

WTF475878237NC · 13/07/2022 15:17

My understanding is that if your symptoms have gone and you are testing negative on the day then you are not contagious anymore and you can go. I'm so pleased people like you are still about!

hoping2021 · 13/07/2022 15:22

Out of curiosity - how what day are you currently?
Day 0= first day of symptoms/ positive test (which ever is first).
I am currently waiting (patiently and desperately) for my test to turn negative.
It's a complicated world we live in with COVID isn't it.
I started a thread on this topic recently... and a lot of people still testing positive beyond day 10.

teenagetantrums · 13/07/2022 15:26

It's fine l work in a care home tested positive last Thursday. As l tested negative on lft on Monday and Tuesday l was allowed back to work today.
Just do an lft you are probably negative by now

Some people test positive for 90 days, despite no longer being infectious or having any symptoms. Just residual viral particles.

CatiaR · 13/07/2022 15:57

As the poster above says. You can test up to 90 days positive. After day 10 don’t bother testing

if you feel fine then you are fine to go out.

Guidelines only state to isolate for 10 days and by day 5-6 the infectious rate has dropped massively.

PurpleDaisies · 13/07/2022 16:04

12 days is fine.

Mybeautifulfriend22 · 13/07/2022 16:10

Twelve days will be fine tbh. Cases are very high. There will be people there either asymptomatic or just not testing that are far more infectious. The chances of you being infectious at 12 days must be very low.

BogRollBOGOF · 13/07/2022 16:17

You'll be much less risk of spreading than others there that may be a couple of days off from realising they're going down with it. Plus you won't be catching it again so soon. Win win, and enjoy.

IGotItInTheSales · 13/07/2022 16:22

There's no rules anymore

Just go! And enjoy yourself!

hoping2021 · 13/07/2022 16:35

even on lateral flow?
