If you tell people at work your children have covid, how do you behave?

So I feel I should say that my daughter has covid . She's confined to her room and the family bathroom, besides when she goes into the garden. If I tell anyone at work should I then be going back to wearing a mask? Mask when I'm in someone else's room and moving around offices? Or none of this?

I feel fine in myself but I wouldn't be surprised if I'm brewing it. Can I have your thoughts please? It was very tight on restrictions up until about a month ago. Masks were worn when in other people's rooms up until about then. Thanks !

The child of a colleague of mine has tested positive this evening. I'm CEV. She will come to work as normal tomorrow (no symptoms) and I will work with her as I usually do.

I don't expect her to isolate her child at home.

LifeInsideMyhead · 11/07/2022 21:06

Weve been told not to test our kids unless told to by a hcp. So really wouldnt know and wouldn't mention it!

Someone having covid isnt newsworthy round here anymore (heard on radio 4 that when they did tests 95% of school kids have had covid already...)

Whatodoaboutit · 11/07/2022 21:07

People at work are wearing masks and staying to their own offices as much as possible when their family members have covid.
We all appreciate it.

They do, mostly, have teens who are staying in their rooms to reduce spreading it.

LifeInsideMyhead · 11/07/2022 21:07

Further to that if a chold feels fine we're supposed to send them in!

If DS has COVID I'd tell my boss and ask what the team wanted me to do. We have one person who is high risk and one person with a very high risk brother. I can work from home but not as effectively and the rest of the team need to pick up the slack for me (like I do if they're at home or whatever).
That said, our office is big and open plan with plenty of outside space. I'd probably practice social distancing at work, sanitise, temp checks and lat flows.
I wouldnt wear a mask unless I couldn't distance myself eg on the bus.

We are currently hybrid working, we had a new starter who tested positive, everyone was sent to WFH for a week & allowed back with a negative test!

There are employers who are doing the right thing & employers that aren't!

The last few cases we have had have seen people off for 2 weeks, back at work but still with terrible coughs - we can't afford more people being off for up to weeks so action was taken to try & prevent this spreading any further!

I think I. Your case I would wear a mask in other peoples offices!

We’ve been told to stay at home if any family member has Covid.

We have to wfh if anyone in the house has Covid, which is handy as my DC are too young to leave home alone anyway.

milkysmum · 12/07/2022 11:05

I have never isolated my children in their rooms at home- we have had covid in the house several times now.
People just go to work as normal even if they have someone at home with covid don't they? I'm a nurse and we do, as do the social workers in our team.
At DS school the teaching assistant currently has a child at home with covid, she's in work as normal.

Chickoletta · 12/07/2022 11:08

Isolating your child in her room seems a bit extreme to me. We have had it in the house 3 times and have carried on pretty much as normal - neither DH nor I have caught it from them. Seems a bit much to be shut away as well as feeling poorly in my opinion.

ItsSnowJokes · 12/07/2022 11:44

We are told to stay at home if anyone in the household has it. We can all work from home though easily (in fact much more easily than the office as we deal with a lot of confidential calls) so it doesn't effect anything.

Really? We guess your job can easily be done remotely then?

SmallestInTheClass · 13/07/2022 20:59

Is she a grown up DD or a child. If a child, then in England you are advised not to test unless a HCP tells you to. I'd carry on as normal with workmates unless they have chosen to tell me they are vulnerable, in which case I'd let them know. With 1 in 25 having it, it is just as likely they will catch it off an asymptomatic colleagues if they get it at all

No. Customer service role.

We're told to work at home if anyone in the household has Covid. Can very easily wfh though.

I would love to know the reasoning for not testing children. Could it possibly be to find fewer cases? 🤔
